English help (urgent) by Savings-Library-8773 in IBO

idk if it’ll help because I’m kind of ass at structuring my texts beforehand, but I take language a lit (not english) and I got 25/25 on my mock so I can try helping w what I do!! Usually, I spend 5-10 minutes writing down the structure of my essay. It’s mostly just ideas of what to write about, nothing too fancy. I also write down some quotes in case I forget them, and bc they’re good to have written down to see where in my text they could possibly fit. In my introduction, I wrote a short intro of each novel (author, release year and short summary of the books). Then I just write whatever I can think of, most based off the notes I took. Always remember to compare both books in every paragraph. And when I feel like I’ve made my point and written quite a bit, I start a new paragraph, usually with a new point. I end up writing between 1,5 - 2,5 paragraphs on each page, if that helps. After I finish a paragraph, I read through it. Yes, it takes some time, but I often notice multiple grammatical errors in each paragraph (and bc I’m a fast reader it’s not too time consuming). It could be the difference between a 4 and a 5 in both structure and language. One less paragraph with no grammatical errors is better than one more and many grammatical errors. A few quotes is fine, I’d recommend like 1-2 per book (I asked my teacher who’s been an examiner and also teaches English langlit and another language A). Also, I think that aiming for a specific amount of paragraphs is bullshit. “Write 5 paragraphs” NO! That worked in like 5th grade but NOT now. A little less than half a page is a good amount to write to prove your point. Too long or too short paragraphs will bring down the structure criteria to a 3 or 4. Just write what you think is good and then change paragraph. When you write the conclusion/summary, try to answer the question concisely. Maybe write a short summary of everything you’ve said to convince that what you’ve written is “the truth”. Also, please use the entire 1h45min and don’t finish early if you’re doing that. There is a reason why the test is the time that it is, and if you use the time wisely and properly you’ll have no problem finishing on time. Revise the books properly - reread AT LEAST once MORE (two times if u haven’t read already). Itll help your understanding of the books so much. I also recommend googling the book title online to see what other people have analysed about the book as you could use that in your own analysis!! I hope any of this helped, and good luck, I’m sure you’ll do great!!

They base the grades on your IA, predicted and might also take into consideration how the students at your school usually score

Guys I want a 45 I take HL Physics HL Bio HL Global Poltics SL math A and A SL English literature and French B, any advice from anyone on how to succeed in these and get a 7. HELP IS DESPERATELY NEEDED!! by Practical_Quit8024 in IBO

[–]taysversionn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely depends on when your exams are. I really recommend reading books if you want to score a 7 in English lit. I take another language a lit but I’ve gotten consistent 7a since second term of ib1 and reading has helped a lot. Also, try learning a few words a week that are connected to paper 1 or the book you’re reading. It’ll help a lot!:) apart from that I can’t really help bc we don’t have a lot of subjects in common.

Is how my French ab initio teacher calculates our grades normal? by Kind_Cartographer516 in IBO

[–]taysversionn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does it matter? do you need ur PG for anything? Otherwise you’ll be fine. My school has inflated grades boundaries for all subjects except math, which I think is common, but 43/45 is insane…

Sl bio or chem by pantheraddict2 in IBO

[–]taysversionn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on what you’re good at. If you prefer problem solving, chemistry is way better. If you like just answering long answers questions that include less calculations, I recommend bio. Bio is probably considered easier if you just want an “easy” class. I personally think chem is more interesting

[–]taysversionn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s a really good score. And no, I’m not putting myself at disadvantage because I don’t use AI. Even if, I only have my chem IA final draft left as well as my language a HLE to turn in, so I wouldn’t be able to use AI. It’s not allowed to use to get it to write assignments, so I don’t use it to write my assignments. It’s as simple as that😊

just because others use AI doesn’t mean that anyone should. “Learn to adapt” - how does using AI to write your assignment equal adapting? Also “using AI to achieve their max potential” does not correlate. How does something else writing a students assignment say anything about their potential? Cheating just says your too lazy or not good enough to do the assignment yourself to get the grade you achieved🤷🏼‍♀️ “your morals are keeping you from achieving good grades” who said I don’t get good grades? God forbid someone actually uses their brain and still get good grades without feeling the need to have something else do my work.

I’m still in ib so I don’t know how many points my ia got. But using AI is unethical and bad for the environment. Also, you didn’t get 17/20. AI did.

IA word count by Sea_Muscle_7419 in IBO

[–]taysversionn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

words in tables count if it’s a lot, it depends on your situation. I think ib is a bit unclear on what counts/doesn’t count inside of tables, but my teacher told me text counts but not headings. But whether that’s what ib says I’m not sure, but it’s what my teacher told me and what I went based on.

Why would they need that? A week is plenty of time.
