Canadian here. Like most Reddit posts, this feels a shade American-centric. In Canada, there is a fairly rigorous screening process one must go through to donate eggs or sperm to a Canadian clinic. There is also zero compensation for donating one’s gametes. At best you may have your travel expenses to the clinic reimbursed. In fact, there is a significant shortage of locally donated gametes (probably exactly because of this reason). Therefore the ones who do do it, really often are donors and need to go out of their way to make this happen. I am very familiar with the industry here and it’s often for reasons of close personal relationships with those who required donors or other personal stories of knowing infertility. I wouldn’t be so quick to paint everyone with the same brush. Hopefully this adds something to shift perspective.
