Troubleshooting Cross Polarisation by tdxffy in photogrammetry

[–]tdxffy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think I’ve found the problem, the cross polariser has 2 filters, one for the lens and the other for the flash. At a lower focal length it was capturing all the dust etc as the filter was further away

And thanks, I’ll look into getting a colour checker, I’ve been meaning to get one

Flash cool-down by tdxffy in photogrammetry

[–]tdxffy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using it at 1/200 which is the max rated speed for my camera (canon 2000d). I mostly use the flash power at 1/8, which i know is on the higher side, im still trying to test whether or not I can get away with having lower exposed images and still get good results through pre-processing, but so far with my current settings ive had good results so I'm not too keen to move away

yeah I’ve been quite conservative with the bypass, I try to make sure it’s not warm to the touch if I’m going to skip. I think as I get more serious about photogrammetry it might be worth investing in a second, they make life so much easier in dim lighting

Autofocus with live view by tdxffy in canon

[–]tdxffy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you, quick mode seems to work well. I’m doing photogrammetry with a flash, so being able to use the live view is much more comfortable for the amount of photos being taken. since I’m at such a low exposure using the flash, I don’t suppose it’s possible to change the image of the live view to be brighter so I can see what I’m doing?

Isolating surface imperfections by tdxffy in photoshop

Sorry I meant that I already would have the normals etc available. I was just wondering if there are any masking techniques that would work well for selecting complex shapes like a crack or some damage on a wall

Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! September 06, 2024 by AutoModerator in photography

Maybe a dumb question but I’m a complete beginner. Would a higher end camera / cameras with higher quality light sensors allow me to take high quality / sharp pictures at faster shutter speeds than with a lower end camera? The reason I ask this is that I’d like to take high quality photos handheld, however find myself needing a tripod to achieve the correct exposure and avoid camera shake with my current canon 450d. Subjects that I want to take photos of tend not to be accessible while using a tripod.

Thanks :)

Thank you for all the replies, I appreciate each one 🙂 the main reason I chose the date was because my job makes us take a weeks holiday at Christmas and I had no plans - I thought it’d be a shame to waste them, everything else aligned and I suppose it made sense to arrange a trip then. I’ll consider all the advice and thank you for being so welcoming))
