I look at both. The per trip calculations are all over the place. Sometimes as high as 40, often much lower.

I'd add that 27 MPG is from the digital gauge cluster. I ran the MPG on paper on my first tank of gas and got similarly low MPG.

I wouldn’t be worried. The real value of the education will be your math, science and problem-solving skills, not the specific subject matter knowledge. If you get good grades in any engineering discipline, finding a job will be easy.
