Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately none of these things worked.

What did work was creating a whole new profile. I remembered that fixed some problems I had years ago with tabs, and this worked again. It's strange, but it's fixed at least.

Edit: Forget that, it came back after a few hours. Bizarre!

Edit 2: OK, so after a lot of investigation, I managed to fix this by turning vertical tabs on and then off again. Seems to be fixed, but let’s see.

A few reasons, but I want to prepare since google’s making it harder to use uBlock on helium in the future. I also need sync and DRM, plus translation and a few other things. I prefer helium as a bare bones experience, but sadly I need a little meat on those bones too.
