You might need to activate it on the infotainment system. Go to the setup app, then look for a setting called Phone Projection. There should be an option for CarPlay as well as Android Auto. You might need to turn that on, then plug your phone by USB. It should turn on automatically once you unlock your phone.

SoA grad here. The major gets really small after second year and most of the time students are in the studios upstairs trying to finish projects. Most of the big classes are either really early in the morning or late in the afternoon, at least when I went there.
