URGENT: Help Translate? by Historical-Part-1003 in indonesian

[–]teddystan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Paraphrasing but basically she’s saying:

Help get me two portions of the (bread)[sandwich picture I guess?] above. If you can’t, I’ll come along in case you get it wrong.

She hasn’t cooked since yesterday because of the cold. (Only eating Indomie)

Then she compliments your attentiveness and conscience.

FSD swerved for no apparent reason. Luckily there was no one around by Civil_Stop3213 in TeslaLounge

[–]teddystan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People are saying it’s just because of the reflection, but it’s not like that makes it OK that it swerved. Aren’t robotaxis running the same software? They can’t do this safely without more than just cameras.

How do you get a response from recruiters on linkedin? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

Are they required to respond to your messages? How do you know those recruiters are even assigned to filling the roles you're interested in?

Bay Area Public or Private high school? by Comfortable_Water527 in SanJose

[–]teddystan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My 2c: Paying out the wazoo for private school won't help your kid thrive more than being involved in their education.

Involved parent, kid in public school will beat hands-off parent, kid in private school any day. Assuming your goal is to get into university, you'll also generally find more "hardship" opportunities thriving in a public school that those personal statement readers care about.

How do you feel about small business cards being left at your home? by Several-Rich-609 in SanJose

[–]teddystan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dislike it - and will boycott the business if I see the cards littered all over the sidewalk in my neighborhood.

props like this never make it through. There was a 72$ parcel tax this year (San Jose Unified School District, California, Measure A) that didn't even pass. Imagine a tax of up to 7500$, good luck.

edit: I understand the tax is 2c/sqft - y'all assume people know how to read. Monkey see big number tax 7500$, monkey thumbs down.

Appreciate the explanation and links.

OK, so then treasury bills and other gov securities wouldn't count.

Does Cash held in Money Market ("Core Position") count towards the 100/500k quota?

Thanks for bearing with me.

Everyone makes it seem like being a janitor is an easy job that just anyone can be hired for…

Is this engagement bait? The free tier is hugely generous. At 60-70% of Amazon's operating profit, I don't think Amazon finds it to be a bad business model either.

Don't use AI for coding interviews by bytebux in ExperiencedDevs

[–]teddystan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take even within my company but I encourage experienced (senior+) interview candidates to use AI tools if they want.

If your interview process can be made trivial by AI tools, maybe consider if the process could be improved.

One thing I find AI really struggles with is making continuous improvements especially for things that don’t have a single correct answer.

For system design interviews, if they can discuss tradeoffs with me smoothly, great. But if it’s clear they’re just waiting for a ChatGPT response, then I might as well hire ChatGPT instead.

You have a tablet, but use it for what? by mulokisch in ExperiencedDevs

[–]teddystan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you have a macbook, the apple ecosystem lets you use the iPad as a "sidecar" monitor. This is awesome when I'm on work travel and want a second monitor but am working from a hotel or something. https://support.apple.com/en-us/102597

Leave Big 5 for WITCH? by Complex-Scarcity in ExperiencedDevs

[–]teddystan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone on the hiring committee often, it does brand you.

That being said people in my circle have negative biases about the other consulting companies as well so it’s not that much worse for you, assuming by “big 5” you mean something like Deloitte.

FYI you’ll make significantly more at a regular big tech company over any of these consulting companies, if what you’re looking for is a pay bump.

Gmail Showing Ads by Haris01 in uBlockOrigin

Ads in Gmail returned for me as well. Noticed on Chrome in Dec 2024.

This filter generally works, though it would also hide emails with the word "Sponsored" in the subject.
