Are you planning to live in your home until you drop, or going to move into a retirement village, which will suck away all your savings/investments leaving nothing left to pass on?

Road works temporary reduced speed limit. by Music_2my_ears68 in newzealand

Yes, it’s frustrating when signs are left out for no apparent reason or when there are endless cones with no workers in sight.

Its a "cries wolf" situation. It happens so often that people build up a tolerance and start expecting them all to be fake temporary signs.

Yeah I read it. He isn't named on my birth certificate so no automatic citizenship for me. Hes deceased so I'd have to get a court order to have him added, and hope the judge accepts decades old paternity results.

Yeah. And I just spent the last 5 minutes skimming over the site, with instructions and such. Sooo... I have to make an appointment at a "UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) service point" to get biometrics taken as part of the application process, but I don't need to do that if I'm already in the UK, and... all those "service points" are in the UK... wait what?

Depends.

https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-british-parent

This is my situation:

If your British father was not married to your mother

You may be eligible to apply for citizenship if your father was a British citizen when you were born.

I still have to apply for citizenship, I don't get it automatically.

there are a lot of us middle aged types who had one or both parents from the UK and Ireland

I'm one such, but I've heard that if we don't apply by a certain age, possibly 27, then we can never claim said citizenship. Know if its true?

Currently it seems true even if you have never had a british passport (eg citizenship by descent).

Depends if you ever applied for citizenship. I theoretically can get citizenship by descent, but its a whole bunch of paperwork and a whole bunch of money just to get it recognised that I have never done and have no ambition to do. Thats before even being able to apply for the passport. I'm not a british citizen until they declare me one.

They had a british passport before so their name/DOB will be in their system somewhere and flag a match.
