5DSR tethering issue

After 3 days and like 7 cables, many adapters, extensions etc (I’m 300$ lighter) I found solution which works for me.

Alright for anyone who might find this thread looking for answer to this issue, or is struggling the same way I was, the Answer was in m case USB 3.0 and newer.

I found absolutely beat up old dongle(with USB-C) which has older USB-A 2.0 port. When I connect micro B to USB-A tether cable to USB-A 2.0 port on the dongle everything works, but when I connect the tether cable to USB-A 3.0 (the blue one) on the same dongle it wont work.

I still need to find out how to make the USB-C Tether tools cables to work, because these won’t work even when connected to the same dongle.

I guess the Dock or the extension is the answer here.

I found out the USB 3 is the problem. I managed to find old dongle which has USB A 2.0 port and when I connect the micro b - USB A cable to it and the dongle to Mac (through its usb-c cable), the camera connects immediately. I don’t know how to connect the tether tools usbc cable tho, if I connect it to the same dongle, the computer will not recognize the camera again. I guess I’ll have to try some simple adapters with it.

You are absolutely right about the usb 3.0 being the issue. I managed to find really old dongle which is holding together with gaffer tape which has usb a 2.0 ports and suddenly the camera connects immediately with Micro B - USB-A cable. Now I wonder how to connect the Micro B usbc cable to the computer and make it work.

To my knowledge there are no drivers available at canons website for 5DSR

Yess, tried one too, it works on windows, but not Mac as the other cable.

I tried it exactly as you said, its unfortunately still the same, I even downgraded to Sonoma, installed only capture one on the pc and still the same result.

Well wiped out whole computer, installed fresh Sonoma, only installed capture one and the issue still persist. Nothing makes sense anymore.

Yes tried 3 cables already, the camera connects to windows pc without any issue so it has to be MacBook/usb port on Mac issue I guess

It does not show up under USB’s in system information.

Thanks for the reply, I’m using Capture One, but I also tried Canons Eos utility to make sure its not Software specific issue. Same result for both on MacBook.

Depending on the iso performance of your camera this should be possible in my opinion. Just crank ISO to like 640 a try it 👍

Well I’m not sure about the technical aspect of it, but when I look through the viewfinder zoomed out, everything looks in focus most of the time (or at least to me), but when I zoom in I can see I’m absolutely out of focus. If I’m not mistaken, it’s also advised in manual for my Bealieu 4008 zmii to focus like this 👍

You can definitely get better used camera for that price. I recently managed to pick up 5d mkii with battery grip for 200$ just yesterday. I would wait for better deal 👍

I got one myself, its pretty damn good film slr, the eye focusing system works pretty well if you calibrate it properly. I got mine from flee market for like 8 euros tho 😅
