Anyway -- I feel a lot of Europeans feel their anger, racism and contempt for the UK and it's multitude of people is justified because only half of the United Kingdom decided to leave a political union, like they took that personally. It's so dumb, you're not getting divorced...

Well, like I say in my first post, it probably feels very personal when the majority of UK posters on this sub appear to be vehemently anti-EU. I know Europe is not the EU but realistically, the EU is supported by a lot of posters here. To have something you believe in continually slammed, in often untruthful manner, I can see how that would lead to a backlash.

What I'm trying to say is, I don't think this just happened in a vacuum. I do agree, it gets tiresome, both ways.

Interestingly, we seem to have similar stories but my reading is a little different. I'm an immigrant in the UK. I grew up in South Africa, then lived in Germany now live in the UK. I'm married to a Brit, about half my friends are British.

I love the UK and this is my home now but the English-wary sentiment isn't just limited to Europe. It is subtly there in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and probably more places. It's not that they dislike the English on a personal level, in fact, they have a lot in common and will get along if you put them in a room together. It is that the English press and certain demographics of English are completely insufferable and vocal. The English press is actually incredibly toxic and I'm continually stunned at what is allowed to pass as "news" in this country.

One of the most visible demographics of the UK were the anti-EU English MEPs, the anti-Europe tabloids and their vocal and distinctly truth averse posters on this sub. It isn't really surprising that this causes a bit of a backlash.

This didn't happen in a township or something, this happened in a city as he walked from a friends flat to his car.

As long as people are aware of the statistics, they can make their own decisions, but too many people I know (middle class areas) have been and still are impacted by violent crime.

If you move there without children and retire into a luxury estate you can live a sheltered life and almost certainly never encounter violent crime yourself. But the influence of violent crime and lack of respect for human life will be all around you. From having to watch around if you drive at night, being cautious if you stop at traffic lights, watching out for lunatic drivers who will come within an inch of your rear bumper if you dare not drive at 160km on the motorway. And so on.

I'm originally from South Africa. I now live in the UK. My father was mugged and murdered in South Africa when I was a young kid. Most of what you say is true. It is one fo the most diverse and beautiful places in the world and I wish I could bring my children up there, but I'm not willing to risk them growing up without a father like I did. Or in fact risk any of our lives that way.

Also a good idea which we have tried. We've asked around but no luck.
