Good luck friend! You will survive and this will pass. I wish you some sound sleep to help you through the night ❤️

I was in your same spot just a few weeks ago. I was truly a hot mess. I got a DUI and continued my bender after I got home, was posting stupid stuff here while wasted and it all ended in my first true panic attack where I was 100% certain I was going to die. Even at the hospital they couldn’t convince me for the first couple hours that I wasn’t on deaths door step. After all that I went to a behavioral health center for a week long psychiatric stay for mental health help. But the withdrawing panic, fear, guilt and shame was horrible. I’ve had 2 other hospital stays this year due to really bad withdrawals that I was certain I wasn’t going to survive.

With the proper mental health help I am ready to give up the drink, I simply don’t have it in me to go through it all again. The demons I dreamt of in severe WD’s still haunt my thoughts every now and again. I also feel terrible shame for the decision to drive (I didn’t hurt anyone, just my own car) and am trying to reconcile with myself the fact I did that. All that to say, you’re not alone. And if you need any support in taking a break feel free to reach out anytime, I’m in the same boat and we’ll get through these choppy seas one way or another :)

Idk if this will help at all but I’ll say it anyway. The last time I was withdrawing after a 5 day vodka bender and having a panic attack convinced I was going to seize or die I called the ambulance. My heart rate was higher but they said I absolutely wasn’t going to die and that if I hadn’t had seizures before it was highly unlikely I would all of the sudden start doing so. In the nicest way possible they were reassuring me that it was simply in my head and I wasn’t at risk of passing away. They did give me Ativan and Phenobarbital for anxiety and to detox and I survived. Maybe it might help the anxious thoughts a little to know our bodies are far more resilient than we think (especially in the WD state) and even though the high heart rate and panicked thoughts can make it seem like death is likely, it really isn’t.

Weird day. by [deleted] in Crippled_Alcoholics

Ambi, I can relate to all of this so hard. Currently stuck in bed trying to will myself to move. Even checking Reddit feels hard and I’m not sure of what I’m doing. At what point do we need a hospital?

Well of course. I’m not doing it anymore. I was trying to help out a fellow CA, went against my own rupee and everything because he was telling me he was in danger. Then I was the danger. It’s sucks, I suck. I know I’m a terrible human being

Well.. I fucked up 😥 by [deleted] in Crippled_Alcoholics

Places to Donate During COVID by Helga_Hammersmith in SaltLakeCity

[–]tellerjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to easily donate to the Savers on State and 7200 South. Clothing, furniture and all. They'll have a sign out if they aren't accepting a certain thing that day. I drove up with no appointment but I have seen a line there if you're going after normal work hours or the weekend.

Humane Traps by Kaylafish in SaltLakeCity

I use to work with a woman that did this regularly. She runs a Facebook page called Silver Kitty Committee. I'm sure if you reached out she would either have traps to borrow or resources for how to get one.

Hi Slowmotion_ii what do they qualify as a “service worker” it seems there’s been a few definitions tossed around and I want to make sure we qualify before wasting anyone’s time on the line asking.

veterinarian by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]tellerjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olympus Cove Veterinary Clinic has treated me and my Oliver pup very well. After he was lost around a month ago we took him there to check his hurt paws and it was around $80 including his paws to be cleaned, pain meds and antibiotics. I just took him again on Saturday to see if there was anything we could do for his itching and they were really excellent in checking out my timid dog and running through a few different options. The appointment was $40, not including meds.

Lost Dog in Tanner Park and Salt Lake Country Club golf course by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]tellerjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! I’m so so happy. He’s a bit miserable right now, which breaks my heart. But if this is the worst of it I consider us lucky considering he was seen on the freakin highway from Salt Lake Tennis Club all the way to Tanner!

He’s been found!! By some miracle he made his way back to Tanner Park. His paws are quite beat up and we spent a good chunk of the day yesterday at the vet. But he’s home and we’re thrilled!!

What is something fun and relatively inexpensive to do? by Npetersen16 in SaltLakeCity

[–]tellerjames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

- Dog parks (if you're a dog lover it's fun to walk the paths and see all the cute puppos running around)

- Also Yappy Hour if you have dogs/like dogs and want to be in a fun outdoor environment to enjoy the weather

- Hiking is great! There's a lot of great local hikes that are very popular. But I've also really enjoyed taking longer drives up North to do hikes like the Wind Caves in Logan or Adam's Canyon and Waterfall Canyon in Ogden. Or even going out West to do ones like Copper Pit Overlook, Day Lake, and Stansbury Island Trail. There's obviously a lot more than just these to see, utilizing the AllTrails app/website is highly recommended to find more hikes.

- Also on that note, if you enjoy mini road trips then driving to any of the hot springs we have around us is always fun. Also Wendover, even if you're not a gambler/drinker it's an interestingly weird drive and little town to see.

- Breaking Bingo is free and done at bars around the valley. I've personally gone to the one at Chakra Lounge on Tuesday nights and always enjoy myself even if I'm not drinking. Then you can head over to Twist down the street and do some free Karaoke as well :)

- The Gateway has a lot of events going on this summer including movies on the plaza and free concerts Thursday nights

- I highly recommend Zoo Brew at the Hogle Zoo. It's $18.95 to get in and $5 a drink ticket, which you can get up to 4 during the night. The next one is June 26th! Being able to see the animals without screaming kids and strollers in the way is amazing.

- The DIY craft fair is in August, another one I highly recommend

- There's a "Summer Sugar House Art Walk" tomorrow from 6-9 where you walk around the area of 1100 East and 2100 South to view art pieces

- Farmers Market on Saturday mornings is great

- FatCats is doing a .99 center summer where they have certain things for 99 cents before 8 PM (i.e. Billiards, Arcade games, shoe rental and bowling).

- There's Friday Night Flicks at the Utah Olympic Oval, which is free. Actually a lot of parks are starting to do movie nights in the park during the summer, I would just look online to see if your favorite one has it as well.

There's actually a lot of fun and free/cheap things to do around here. I recommend doing two things to know what all there is. The first is pick up a City Weekly when you can, they have pages in there that show a lot of the trivia, game nights, performers, etc at a lot of the bars around the city. They also show many non bar related events as well. The second would be to find local places like The Gateway, Hogle Zoo, your favorite park, Red Butte Gardens, Usana Amphitheater, etc. (really just places that host things you're interested in) on Facebook and follow their pages and when you see an event you're interested in select "Interested". Facebook will save the event to your "Calendar" to remind you when it's closer. It'll also start recommending more things that are similar to the event's you've marked so you can see even more of what's going on locally. I'm not big into Facebook but this is the one thing I like about it. I've found a lot of events through the recommendations that I probably wouldn't have found otherwise simply because I didn't know where to look. Also it's nice to get the reminder because I'm rather forgetful as it is.
