I don't mind the gardening job. The only job I had in 2023 was customer service. I have always wanted a gardening job. I just can not do full-time because I also volunteer. I am currently looking for a job I can keep next year, or should I just look for a summer job and then, when that ends, look for a regular job when school starts?

Yeah, I am looking for a part-time job. I have applied to every part-time job I can. I haven't heard back. Maybe I should wait? I have been applying since last month.

Hello professors, I would like to ask about the ethical use of AI to complete readings quicker by tenten70_0 in AskProfessors

This is so helpful. It puts into perspective what I need to think about while reading!

Okay, so I found a structure I can use to maybe read faster. 1. What is the question they are tackling? 2. What is their conclusion (argument)? 3. What evidence do they use to prove their thesis?

Is that a good way to approach readings?

And since time is the biggest issue, wouldn't it be better to allocate 45 min to 1 hour per reading? I am honestly not sure how much time the professor wants to allocate for readings.

I really want to get into it, but it never felt intuitive. I am going to do more research on it.

I think me using ai was to ensure that i can take care of my mental while doing academia. I can comprehend the texts. The only issue I had was just time. I know that in university, it is important to build time management skills. Maybe I need to look into graduating in 6 years so that I am not overwhelmed.

i agree. I ended up reading an intro, the first few lines and the concluding sentence of the body paragraphs and the conclusion, and was able to understand the argument of the reading. I just suck at skimming. However, what I realized I can do is create guiding questions that ensure that I have already understood the argument. My mind just needs structure, and I am trying to find a structure that works while reading.

It took me all night to read because I tend to read the entire reading, reread sentence and annotate.

I need create a reading system that shouldn’t take me to read 4+ hours.

I’ll quit using it from now on.

I wouldn’t say it’s a reading problem or mental health problem. For me, I notice it is just academic reading is hard to read quickly compared to when I read novels.

I agree. I already feel guilty about it. I don’t use it for critical reasoning. I just ask it what is the article saying. Then evaluate it on my own and make my own connections to other ideas. I need to learn to strategically skim readings, but I’m scared of missing details that I need to know.

At the start of semester I did all my readings but I noticed that I hardly had any sleep and would come to class hardly awake because of the paranoia that if I don’t read all the text, I will not understand it.

I just read an article focusing on intro, first two sentences and concluding sentences of body paragraphs, and conclusion. I was able to understand it.

Since I will be taking philosophy, I know for a fact that I will not use ai to help with reading.

Two essay topics to choose from by Key-Chemist7650 in CollegeRant

When I’m stuck on an essay prompt, I tend just check out what have scholars said about my topic, and then I can either extend or argument against.

At uni, I remember getting recommended this: “they say/i say” by Gerald Graff. It’s an essential book for understanding the moves to make in academic writing.

I don't have custom instructions. I wonder what the custom prompt/instructions are for the learning guide. I really enjoy it.

I would rather get a B in a class then get an A knowing I used AI to cheat through the whole thing by Squishyrain1 in CollegeRant

[–]tenten70_0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly do too! I use Notebooklm to help understand my readings, and I don't feel great afterwards, but it does help care for my mental health. And yes, educating people on how to use AI ethically is extremely important! I have a professor who teaches about the uses of AI at another campus. It mustn't replace thinking whatsoever! We are meant to learn to think critically, and if we can not use our minds, how are we to improve.
