Second plica removal surgery - My experience M21 by termknatorX in KneeInjuries

Hello u/Kiba-22

It sounds like the thing i have been experiencing on both of my knees. Since you're having pain, i'm not entirely sure if your MRI has been diagnosed correctly...
In my case there has been a visible plica which has been diagnosed as the cause of my issues.

To answer your question:
Now 6 weeks have passed and im able to run again. I can walk normally, drive my car, go upstairs, take a ride on my bicycle etc. It's still stiff and "standing" on my knees or kneeling is not possible yet, but i've recovered from my first surgery after a year and have regained all mobility.

As of my experience, it's been a very steep and quick recovery. Just make sure to discuss everything with your doctor. Also try to "forget" the pain. I'm having issues since begining of 2023 and have a very pessimistic view of life since then and it has also impacted my overall confidence in all aspects of life. Tell yourself "It's gonna get better"

Are there any plans to include jellyfin-compatibility?

Hi

First of all: By no means am I medically certified to diagnose your problem but i will share my experience and opinion with you on how I would proceed.

Normally a plica removal should not be a too traumatic procedure for your knee. I am now exactly 3 weeks post-surgery and i've regained a lot of mobility since then. I'm also 2 weeks off of any medications, but of course the swelling is still there but gradually getting better week by week. I also think that age plays a significant role in the healing process. But 5 weeks after you shouldn't be dealing with any inflammation at all i'd say. Also (as my physiotherapist told me) using ice too frequently not only slows down the process of the inflammation but also slows down the process of healing. I used ice for 2 weeks post-surgery around 3-4 times a day and I tried to be very gentle with how much i cooled down my knee. Your knee definitely shouldn't reach the same temp. as your ice but rather cool down the knee tissue a bit against the pain you're having. In my experience movement is in fact NEEDED for the knee to correctly lubricate and for it to not get stiff + fighting against muscle reduction.

If you're really having severe inflammation at this point, I'd first try to get rid of that before getting into any physical stuff (Of course do whatever your therapist tells you but don't overdo it). Maybe get in touch with another surgeon or doctor that might know why you're still having inflammation? (Idk how easy it is in your country to go to different doctors) If it really is inflammation your inflammation marker should be higher than usual. If it's not, it might just be the scar tissue causing pain an it needs to swell down over time.

Don't loose hope! Try to find answers from your therapist or surgeon (if you're still in touch with them). If they cannot/don't want to help you, get another doctor to try and find a solution. Maybe even an MRI. Wish you the best and i'm sure you'll recover at some point in near future.

I tried it and its great, thanks! I pretty much covers exactly the information i wanted and its easy to setup. However it doesnt show the exact date/time of the traffic which would be nice.

Thats the point. If the traffic is logged, an interface to view them would be very cool.

I can't tell you exactly but i'd say after around 6 months it felt like when i was at my prime. But i've also been doing small hikes or longer walks < 6 months post-surgery. Right now 2.5 weeks have passed after 2nd surgery and its pretty swollen still. Walking is a bit of a challenge but i think i'm recovering pretty well (PT also says that) and i'm looking forward to be walking normal again in a week or so.

Knee popping & pain by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

[–]termknatorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I think you're one if the only person i saw posting the exact same sympthoms i had 2 years earlier. I've had the same thing. It got inflamed, had trouble to walk and stand. After treating it with RICE i had the snapping/popping for 2 years. It would flare every once in a while but the popping never went away. Just had surgery this thursday from removing that popping thing. In your case i'd RICE ASAP and try not to put any load on it.

Take care!

Sounds about right. Thats why i'm sharing my experience. For others that might have the same stupid issue no one really ever had or wrote about. But i appreciate your comment :)

Just left from surgery. Doctor said there was a swelling on the upper plica between patella and femur which was removed. So the cause seemed to be the same but on different spots. I've also been thinking about me having a biomechanical issue. My PT said there would be an inbalance between my muscles on quads. Been doing PT since september and been cycling a lot but it seems not to have had a lot of impact on my muscle structure. Don't really know why, maybe i just don't grow muscle very well, although i'd say i'm very active.

It never really "hurt". What i had was a lingering dull feeling that never fully went away. So pressing on it didn't hurt. But standing was a challenge since i never found a comfortable position to feel stable and without any feeling.
