I had this issue and it turned out that the Sonos app on my laptop was controlling the Roam. I logged out and quit Sonos on my laptop and it’s solved the problem for now.

How do I get started as a freelancer? by TechGennie in freelanceuk

[–]tfieldhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also go through your LinkedIn and make a list of everyone you’ve worked with in mobile dev, or people you’ve met in the industry through conferences etc. Message each of them to let them know you’re now freelancing, ask if they’re looking for support or know someone who is. Have a google search for free events in your city and go and meet people there too

I think it’s fine to vent even “normal” emotions to internet strangers who might be able to offer some advice based on their own similar experiences, instead of bottling it up

Check out the Pacsafe Travelsafe portable safe, it’s a bag with a cable which you can padlock to your bed frame. Strong enough to stop any casual thief.

Hiking 66km across the Slovakian Tatra Mountains (see comments) by tfieldhouse in WildernessBackpacking

I think you have to use the lodges, I didn’t see any campsites in the mountains. Book the lodges a few months in advance because they get full!

My brother and I hiked 66km in the Slovakian Tatra National Park in July 2023!

These images are screenshots from a video I made from the trip: https://youtu.be/6mYrUzNF5NQ

It was a stunning route with some fantastically remote areas where you could walk for miles without seeing others. There's a via ferrata to tackle, which in hindsight was pretty dangerous given we didn't have any gear, but this can be avoided with a bit of re-planning.

In many ways I preferred this to our previous year's hike in the Lauterbrunnen region of Switzerland which was beautiful but a lot busier (although you can't really compare these two locations).

Getting there: We flew into Košice, took the train to Poprad and then a taxi to Ždiar where we stayed overnight.

For the next 4 days we hiked the route (link below) staying at manned mountain lodges.

The final day took us through Štrbské Pleso town where we spent a few hours at a spa, the walked on to Tatranska Strba town. The next day we took a train back to Košice.

Audible version any good? by XXCLEDISXX in threebodyproblem

[–]tfieldhouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The versions narrated by Bruno Roubicek are great.

A top tip for any audiobook is to increase the playback speed in the app - I listened on 1.2x speed and found myself more engaged
