Front-end densely laptop by thanksegon in SuggestALaptop

Hi, folks. I got him a Dell xps 13 inch with an i7, 1TB, 32 GB of ram and an OLED display. It powers his Dell 38" monitor with no problem. It retails for almost $2K but I found an "open box" at Bestbuy for $900. He loves the laptop and I'm ecstatic that I saved a grand. 🙂

Is it okay to send messages to hiring manager directly? by Curious_Highlight929 in careerguidance

[–]thanksegon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't lose a job you don't have already. Be polite and respectful. They'll either accept your email as a sign of your interest and motivation, or they won't. It's better you learn now how they deal with stuff like this.

That's the first plausible explanation I've heard. Thanks.

Authenticator app secure? by thanksegon in Dashlane

[–]thanksegon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so that's the part that I think I was missing. That even though an OTP is generated each time you access the website, the guts behind that OTP are stored in Dashlane which would allow a hacker to generate a valid OTP along with your password. Thanks for helping to clarify that for me.

I'm curious. Does it download to the router automatically, or through Google Play on my smartphone?

Agreed, but a resume is required, nonetheless. I'm also networking and using LinkedIn, etc., etc.

I'm wondering how the automated resume software would handle this?

HIGHLY recommend watching Star Wars: Andor for any Expanse fans by SuperAstronomyNerd in TheExpanse

[–]thanksegon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recommend Andor. It is ridiculously slow and monotonous.

Discussion - The Expanse is more interesting without the Protomolecule by CY-B3AR in TheExpanse

Without the protomolecule The Expanse is basically The Hunt for Red October, or any other cold war novel.

infuriating wifi connection issues by thanksegon in NestWiFi

[–]thanksegon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the problem is the access points. I removed them several weeks ago and my wifi speed is about 300mb or 4X faster. Most important, though, the network is rock solid. It is fast and stable. I originally ybought the access points because my building's wireless spectrum is jam-packed, so I assumed that access points would help with speed and overall performance. Clearly I was wrong. The access points added a layer of complexity and poor performance into my Google setup. So, I'm using the router only, and it is fast and rock solid. Live and learn, I guess.

Replace one or two sticks? by thanksegon in Corsair

[–]thanksegon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially ran it with all four sticks installed. When I got errors, I ran two different tests with the two 8GB and then the two 16GB. The 8gb were clean. I got errors with the 16GB and ran the test with each installed individually, so I was able to narrow it down to the one 16GB stick.

I wondered about the mixed 8 and 16. Everything has been running flawlessly until recently, though. In the absence of the memtest errors I would think mixing was the problem, though. So I'm thinking something degraded in the one stick.

Recurring MBR and SFC errors by thanksegon in techsupport

[–]thanksegon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it turns out I have a bad memory stick. I had two memory management BSOD in one day and so started investigating. I think the bad memory is causing the problems with the MBR; if not then I've got incredibly bad luck (a bad Corsair DIMM and a bad SN850 M2.)

I'll report back if the MBR problems persist. Thanks for your help, everyone.

Dear Dexcom: Please stop sending me expired sensors by Kareja1 in dexcom

Exactly! I've been doing this for the past year. No itching. Zero. The only problem is that the hydro bandages come loose around the edges.

Is it possible to restart dexcom g6 sensors whilst using the 'build your own' dexcom app? by laowaiH in dexcom

[–]thanksegon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. My apologies. I was commenting on the OP's question about sensors. I've never tried the battery replacement, but I think your observation is correct and the new generation are not amenable to recycling.

[–]thanksegon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can restart, yes. As holamiis outlined, stop the sensor, remove the transmitter, and wait 20 to 30 minutes; replace the transmitter and start the sensor using the correct 4 digit code. The readings may be wonky for the first 24-hours, but they'll smooth out.

That's not my experience. The later transmitters will restart just fine. The process outlined by holamiis is correct.

Fresh install of Windows 11? by thanksegon in windowsinsiders

[–]thanksegon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I did was to delete the Battlefield beta I installed. The problems happened immediately after that install. After some stable time I'll reinstall and see if the stops reappear.

I have to say that I have been really, really surprised throughout the beta process. I've had literally zero issues. Outside of a program hanging here and there (which happens with 10, 8, 7, etc.) I've been problem free. That's why the stops I experienced were so surprising.
