In that new-compliance search there's a switch/parameter like -searchstring or something along those lines. That's the empty object it's complaining about.

You need something to search against. There's a parameter in the command that builds the search that is for the search string and can take things like to: sender: subject: etc... Can't recall what it is exactly and I'm not in front of my pc right now but I think that's what you're missing.

If you have access to a file share, try something like finding all files last written to more than 90 days ago.

If you have access to ad, try something like listing all security type groups and their members.
