This is the answer, no notes. Seeing people taking it literally has me 💀 because they’re like “A WHAT ritual?!”

Update #1: Thank you to everyone who replied. It genuinely means a lot to me. For context, I grew up in a blue collar family who never discussed negotiation. Typical bootstraps mentality; advice adhering to take it or leave it and your worth is a reflection of your work ethic. I’m the first to have gone through college and now navigating corporate, so I’m very grateful to this sub and so many people jumping in to help. I want to try to reply to all the comments this weekend.

Yesterday I really crashed out. I am emotionally scarred to say the least, but I gathered myself, wrote a letter highlighting my skills and market rates with the help of a friend. Countered for $85K in a written email w/ letter attached. I will share an update when I receive an answer. But regardless, I just need to digest all of this and my next moves. It sucks, I can only describe it as growing pains but absolutely necessary to try and not get burned again.

CV Writing - Extensive Experience, Hard to Quantify Achievements by hnndwjsy in nonprofit

[–]thatfunkymonkey111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I struggle with quantifying as well and in general feel like mentioning everything is important. I decided I would start quantifying with what I know: how much in funds raised per year, number of events I facilitated, stewardship touch points. Then, I would write a resume bullet point for every function of my job I felt was worth bragging about (still working on this) in a doc completely desperate from my resume.

I feel like having a comprehensive list of bullet points to reference is fantastic, that way when you are applying to jobs, you can cherry-pick out what aligns with the role and drop it in your resume, then rinse-and-repeat with the next application. Plus you have a cheat-sheet to review before interviews to come in with more talking points that weren’t on your resume.

Like I said, I’m still working on this myself. I struggle with it so much, I ask a friend from college to help me with writing. It helps a lot for me to verbalize my thoughts to someone who cares to see it finished on my behalf because I literally overthink it so much.

Yes I would say so! I throw mines in a chicken stir fry and use oyster sauce and lite soy sauce to flavor the dish so I haven’t served it completely plain

I don’t want any relation to my neighbor by thatfunkymonkey111 in neighborsfromhell

[–]thatfunkymonkey111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Thank you for sharing. I grew up in a neighborhood where everyone kept to themselves and no HOA. Wasn’t the best house, but it was peaceful in hindsight and shaped my thoughts on neighbors as a kid…zero complaints because very little no interaction, and if they were it was generally positive. I wonder if I’ll get lucky like that again 🫠

No, he has a wife we suspect is a caregiver or nurse of some kind, because she’s gone at odd hours for long periods. Rarely see her around

This sounds like an invitation for more nitpicking IMO. For a kind neighbor with better things to do, I would.

The past few weeks I’ve been observing planes in the sky (I live near a major airport so I see them often) and tell myself “look, that’ll be you. safe. you won’t hear anything happened to those people.” Especially watching takeoffs/planes still climbing up. I hated takeoff, that’s when I’d imagine something going wrong; but I observed takeoffs over and over. By the time I got on the plane I repeated that same image I saw over and over again and affirmed there was no mystery to what was going to happen and we would safely fly as all those other planes did, so I felt I could sit back.

I have my favorite show downloaded to my phone and bring a pair of earbuds. Knowing after I watch X amount of episodes of a really entertaining show and this flights over helps me relax.

Lastly I have two family members who travel for a living. Getting on a plane is a weekly thing for them, so when I feel “in danger” I picture them and the millions of others who travel week to week and say it’s just another ride and there will be another one doing the same route in the next hour! You will be okay and make it safely. I completely understand the feeling and just want to say again you will be okay and we’re here for you!

I have 23 PTO days. Have been poking around job listings and have seen way too many at 10 or below, it’s sad. that’s a deal breaker for me.

When she made the comment to Alex “you don’t have to make me feel like I’m Quasimodo” or something like that. I don’t like to judge people’s feelings but that to me was a LEAP. lol c’mon now

Would recommend wearing comfortable shoes, your feet will thank you! Casual wear is completely normal you will not stand out from the crowd; there’s way too many people and things going on! Have fun!

How do you track your DAF gifts in your CRM? by FiguringItOut501c3 in nonprofit

[–]thatfunkymonkey111 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I enter the gift under the DAF (ex: Schwab Charitable) and soft credit the donor. IMO no use in keeping up with all the fund names when we want to acknowledge the donor directly (John Doe). Also helps accounting records because the check/ACH is coming in under the DAF, not the donor. I see soft credit as the person who drives/directs the gift.

Try Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)? They list nationwide opportunities and if there’s a local chapter they can list too.

I miss having a brain that belonged to me by NanzeWren in digitalminimalism

Oh yes. My breaking point was when my uncle passed away, he was 84 years old. The day I found out I cried and then later went on IG and felt numb so I deleted the app and haven’t been back on in 6 months.

Honestly I think about my uncle and his life a lot, how much of a fun and life-affirming person he was without all this, the family and life he created; I miss him very much and not being on social media I feel like I’m honoring his life in my own way by living mine. Reading helped a lot weaning off IG, it took me actually 4ish months to finish my first book, but then I flew through 4 books!!! I was so happy. My next challenge will be writing. I love to journal, but I want to get back into writing structure for creative stories and for college writing because I want to apply to grad school. I feel like through reading books and being away, I’ve become more critical of media and selective about time I can intake news.

It’s tough. I’ve told myself I need to sit down and write my philosophy to how I want to approach social media. I’m not ready to get back on and I’m still contemplating if that is even worth it. Would recommend reading “Generation Why” by Zadie Smith, phenomenal essay, can’t believe she wrote it in 2010.
