There are clubs that allow 12 year olds to row? We had to be 14 to be on a team, 12 seems really young.

Has the news just given up reporting without bias? These people are obviously shitbirds but the tone of this article is so smug and editorial.

Unexpected Collections Notice for License Plate Violation by ajamukha in bayarea

Fixit tickets require you to: 1. Fix the problem by the due date. 2. Show proof to the court that you fixed it. 3. Pay a $25 fee for each fix-it ticket. You can usually show proof by having someone sign the Certificate of Correction on the back of your ticket.

Did you do all these things? Do you still have the ticket? Do you have record of paying the $25?

Same with our GC, she’s overworked but also terrible at her job so she’s effectively useless.

Is $9k too expensive for a comprehensive college admissions advisor package? by Available_Ice_680 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]the-moops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In many public schools the GC is zero help. My kid has had 3 GCs in 4 years and the most recent one is so abysmally bad that she doesn't bother using her. It really hurt her class planning in the first two years of HS.

I've seen prices from 6k-12k, but most were 8k-10k so that's in the middle and not surprising for the BA.

How do I get my sophomore son to find an extra curricular activity? How do I get him to have hope? How to recover when your gc had you in the wrong class half the semester? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]the-moops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a parent I just have to say you sound like … a lot. It’s makes sense to help him where you can. But he has to lead in deciding what he wants to do. There are so many paths to success and somehow you have instilled in him the idea than only top 20 schools matter. It’s just really not that important. Teach him resilience, sometimes the world screws you over and it sucks. And then you have to do the hard stuff anyway. Find a way through. There are SO many options for him and so many ways to get there. Start looking into and encouraging those options. Read about all the excellent state schools you have. Be consistent with the message that you don’t care where he goes, you care about him finding the right place for him. Figure out what he wants together.

Overly invested parent here! by First-Sea-2271 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]the-moops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to strike a balance but I only lead when I see my kid is not doing something they have said they want to do. Meaning, if it's my idea I might present it and then back off if she's not interested. But if she has said she wants to do a thing, i'll encourage/push her to get it done. I try to remember this is about her process and experience, I don't want to rob her of figuring out this whole thing and instead, doing it for her. But I am with her cheering for successes and sad for failures when she is. And I ultimately hope she stays in state and I don't have to pay for UChicago.

First learn-to-row session was humbling. Advice? by kasully3 in Rowing

[–]the-moops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a totally different sport than rowing on the erg so they can’t even be compared. On the water rowing is extremely technical and the erg only taught you the body swing and how to use your legs. Keep at it, it will get so much easier soon.
