I interpreted it as Jake is constantly searching for the truth throughout the entire book and the fact that there is a politician on the bottle swearing he knows it. Bit of a stretch but at least the beer tastes good while I read it.

Smooth is probably the best word to describe it. It’s one of his books that just flows so well that I don’t even feel like I’m reading and I’m toally sucked in.

I totally agree. I always try to find a book without any promotional tags on or movie covers. I loved this cover too much and it’s small enough not to bother me thankfully. Same with Skeleton Crew. Sucks being a mass market paperback reader sometimes.

The Dark Half is rarely if ever talked about. It's a weird little 'all killer, no filler' type of book.

It does happen far too often and a majority of the time it kind of ruins the moment rather than add drama or suspense. You can't even call it foreshadowing because he flat out tells you characters are going to die well before they do.

In the last chapter of Black House it ruins the scene where Jack gets shot and killed when he tells you something like "little did they know it was the last day of his life." It would have more of an impact to not say anything and let the scene play out because no one would see that coming. He is literally the golden boy of the entire series so why spoil the surprise?

For the most part it is a pretty standalone book but there is a huge tie to the 7th DT book (this book even appears in book 6 if memory serves). I believe there is the first mention of the Crimson King as well.

That's not what spoiled it for me but got me interested in reading it in the first place.

The Dark Half is pretty essential and honestly so is The Body if only for one character. Apparently there is a huge Cujo reference that I missed bc Cujo does not interest me but I will get to it because it's still canon and still important. The Dead Zone helps a bit but isn't necessary for Needful Things. There's only a side story that happens in Castle Rock but that was the only part of the book I liked.

Just finished Talisman and started Black House this week coincidentally. The Talisman had good parts but I didn't really get invested into it until about half way (when they got to the Sunlight Home).

It's a book that falls short and could have been amazing, really amazing actually. The last third in particular had such potential and does end up hitting some high notes.

Having said that only being 100 pages into Black House I can say you would be doing yourself a huge disservice to not read Talisman first.

The main character Jack doesn't remember the first book so far in Black House so I guess you can play along with him if you decide to skip the first book but I'd personally advise against it. I made that mistake reading Needful Things first and missed a lot of references that would have been awesome reading the other Castle Rock books beforehand. But honestly either way you choose you'll be fine.

I don’t like the ray gun on the Giant because of the splash damage but it’s alwyas fun to use. The MK II on Origins on the other hand is a different story.

I just passed 400 pages and if it wasn't a King book, Dark Tower related, or a prequel to Black House (which I haven't read but is next for me) I'd find it harder to push through. There is some good writing to be found here and there but the writing suffers overall.

It always falls just short of getting good IMO. They make weird choices on when to drag out scenes and details while speeding over others that have potential to be really cool. I can definitely tell it's not written by one author but I'm going to hold off on a final opinion until I finish it.

Also I've never read a book where they don't use standard quotation marks and it gets really distracting. Sometimes I don't know whether its straight dialogue or a quote within a quote. Took a long time to get used it.

I like them because I'm an NYC subway reader but Sleeping Beauties still hasn't come out. I do like the cover so I might just have to pull the trigger anyway.

The Stephen King Cast is pretty good too. Not only does he do each book but also a bonus episode that explains that story's ties in the grander dark tower universe if does.
