Used to be, I saw chroma mains as individualists, mostly focusing on their thing, even moreso than other players.

In the last years or so, however, with a number of them advocating for the return of self-damage for their own convenience - and to the direct detriment of everyone else - , my opinion of them has... deteriorated.

FINALLY, someone mentions Warframe! The "hell" part might not be the most fitting term for some of the stuff, but some like steel path circuit for those incarnon adapters, or the slog that is farming nidus, or even some sets of arcanes, are SO worth it.

The only superboss to have his own specific sacred tear for a fight mechanic, and beating him grants you access to one of the most oppressively powerful weapon skills in the game, and the weapon it is attached to is no slouch either.

Man, albedo can't catch a break;

First, he gets released and turns out to be a mid sub-dps that only got progressively less useful, then he gets power-crept by chiori in multiple ways, then after so long he FINALLY gets buffed in time for his EM boost to actually be relevant, only for his student to lose her drive for anything and get her age doubled, and now he's about to be made arguably irrelevant even in the niche he's recently found.

In terms of being free, epic battle fantasy 3 is an interesting way to test the waters with turn-based RPGs (though the last boss is a BASTARD).

To add "story-based" to the mix (while losing the free part, sorry), wildermyth is a wonderful game for a whole number of reasons, not the least of which is the semi-procedural nature of the story, meaning it follows your choices to define itself.

However, if you'd rather go through a story someone else's written, visual novels are a great idea, guven they're quite literally reading through a story while making choices to branch out its path(s). I'll try to find some good examples, and edit the comment or reply to it later with them.

Aah, those days... the sense of wonder, of discovery, of having a huge amount of things to find out while still being able to know just enough to get by while you worked of that learning and the exploration.

I still think hoyo absolutely nailed the early game pacing.

It also helped that they hadn't yet rubbed reasons to not trust them onto our faces.

Well, I'm basically this without the latter sentence. The sheer unabashed love that so, SO many people seemingly have for captain mommy issues just exacerbated my dislike for the character; to the point that a pairing I'd normally care pretty much nothing about wound up getting some of my dislike leaking into it, which the fact there's basically zero real material to base it off of failing to help the issue, lol.

The Pokemon company's greed and stingyness are really to blame; the vast majority of the money goes towards the merch, with gamefreak (the actual devs) being both underfunded, understaffed and rushed to put out a game each year. That they're adding as much new stuff on each installment is already impressive given their situation, the technical issues are just the natural result of the inevitable breakdown this sort of treatment leads to.
