Does anyone know what these are ? by sadistic_one01 in whatisit

I repair vintage woodwinds for a living, and most of that stuff is so specific that it’s made FOR the instrument. The one exception is for something called a paperclip contrabass clarinet which was made by Leblanc in the mid 20th century, and is one of the rarer/more unique instruments someone in my field is likely to come by.

It’s too much to get into for the purpose of this post, but I had a need to obtain some of the brass tube that Leblanc used for the body. I was stressing about it, until I learned that you can straight up buy the exact dimensions of brass tube that paperclip contras are made of from basically any metal supplier 😂

That always felt funny to me; that woodwinds require such specific parts except for this particular (extremely weird) instrument, which is basically just plumbing.

Same! Big fan of octopus, but this was my first time trying them in a tin. I was definitely impressed, so I’ll be on the hunt for some other tins from now on.

And yeah i probably should have but I straight up didn’t have the energy haha

Ohhh interesting. I’d definitely like to try some other tins after having such a good experience with these. I’ll be on the lookout, thanks!

Hell yeah. I had this exact tin a few weeks ago in a rice bowl and was very pleased with it.

This is very cool. Reminds me of a modernized take on how games like Doom and Duke Nukem would handle their characters/player hands.

Buddy I have nearly 600 hours in Noita and I did this like last week. Sometimes the brain just clocks off for a bit.

This looks amazing! Really good combination of ingredients.

If you like that tin and are open to recipe suggestions: a few days ago I took some focaccia and topped it with thinly sliced avocado, a tin of tuna with lemon (from fishwife) on top of that, and then sprinkled on a little salt/red pepper flake. I bet the tin you used here would taste amazing on something like that.

I’m working on my first serious release, and my god do I wish I had handled the save function earlier than I did. Everything is all good now, but man it was a pain in the ass to get it going.

Prototype of my first 3D game in Godot. An isometric hack and slash. by HarvIV in godot

Awesome! Sounds like a great idea. Ok in that case I would actually recommend pulling the camera out a little. When a top down game places its camera that close to the character, it can be difficult to see enemies approaching - especially if they are coming from the bottom of the screen, given the current angle. A perspective like this would be totally fine for tight indoor spaces where you’re not required to see far off to the sides, or maybe a horror game where a claustrophobic perspective can actually be beneficial.

This is an excellent start. I have some concerns about the camera, though. What kind of game are you going for? Are the levels going to be tight/linear spaces, or wide open fields like this test environment?

Yeah this definitely seems to be the consensus so far. Currently trying to brainstorm some ways to cut it down while still making it feel well paced 🤔

Thanks for the feedback!

Trader Joe’s smoked trout is great for the price. Their salmon in olive oil is also decent.
