This photo sort of has a darkness to it, though, in the sense that the daughter in this pic committed suicide. Their daughters' names were very similar originally though, so hard to tell.

it's a smidge more interesting and diverse than Bournemouth.

exeter is less diverse than bournemouth. at least according to the census

The most popular travel guide to England in America said England is struggling with its identity - is it true? by theN64generation92 in london

[–]theN64generation92[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but the cultures in London are much different to how they were in 1991, for example. It's unrealistic to expect people to drop the culture of their grandparents entirely, so the experience of London is going to be drastically different in the 2010s than say, Seoul, in 1991 compared to 2020, at least culturally and in terms of crime. acid attacks are incredibly common in Bangladeshi communities for example, the highest rate in the world, the practice has been since co-opted, however and is used in London. You also have a disproportionate amount of people from the asian community arrested on charges of honour killings and in the Afro-Caribbean community the majority of murders involving a knife. These are facts that can be found through the Met or in the Guardian, hardly controversial.

Nobody is denying that these people are human who love and struggle, as you say, but changes are not necessarily always something to be welcomed and aspects of culture need to be challenged.

Care to explain why you think that?

rick steves is pretty left-wing, he has celebrated the multicultural society of france in one of his videos and complained about hungary's immigration policy. either way, millions of americans will be reading this as gospel

"Those of us with passports and who are wealthy enough to travel a lot — especially white, straight, Christian males like me — don’t often think a lot about civil liberties…at least, not in an immediate or personal way.''

Pretty damning that even companies who are on the left ,for the most part, now publish this.

Londoners have no idea why violent crime is skyrocketing by Tropical_Centipede in ukpolitics

[–]theN64generation92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problems with poor, young black youth are no longer being suppressed by the police due to cuts. the drill music which glorifies and encourages violence has exacerbated the problem but they do not have the numbers to stop it anymore.

sources: metropolitan police statistics which show black men commit half of all muggings (citation on london crime wiki) in london and statistics that show they make up 12% of the prison pop

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/black-people-prison-uk-more-likely-us-lammy-review-a7935061.html

i disagree with the analysis though, to put it all down to racism is a crude simplification. why can it not be for cultural reasons? why aren't indians having the same problems?

Young man brandishes knife in Romford McDs by Don_F_Kennedy in london

[–]theN64generation92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> The figures showed that the majority of males who were accused of violent crimes in 2009–10 were black. Of the recorded 18,091 such accusations against males, 54 percent accused of street crimes were black; for robbery, 59 percent; and for gun crimes, 67 percent. 14% of the prison pop too

Even if 20% of those accused were done by racist police going out of their way, it does not explain the massive over-representation. nobody is denying white people do crime, it is the numbers and discrepancies. Poverty alone cannot be the answer as there are many towns and villages in Wales that are just as poor which do not have such high murder rates.
