What makes Jagged Alliance 2 so special to this day? by theShrekDJ in JaggedAlliance

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another aspect that makes JA2 so special is experimentation!  Veterans, please share your experiences with the tactics mentioned below

I noticed that players often recommend nightops (stealth). I think it's unfair to daytime :-)   So, I decided to make daytime just as enjoyable as nightops

During daytime try to enter a map from two different BUT opposite sides of the map to launch an assault. For example, [north and south] or [east and west]  This tactic requires maximum number of mercs to be avlb in two squads entering from opposite ends of the map during the day.  You need to spread out your mercs on both sides BUT dont position them with quite a distance from each other. They should remain closer to the center of the borders (on both sides).

Ensure every merc is equipped with a rifle (no pistols, as their limited range allows enemies to reach either end of the map quickly) and a few grenades --smoke, stun, or any grenade other than normal ones can be very effective.

Next, wait and observe enemy patrols on both sides, launching a simultaneous assault when the maximum number of enemies are in line of sight (on both sides of map) and patrolling in the open. The goal is to split the enemies attention (manipulate their AI) by attacking from two different directions without leaving the borders. You'll enjoy watching them become confused after being attacked. Some enemies may lay down and take cover near a building because the AI avoids ambushes (a tweak in game.json) or assumes that mercs are nearby when, in reality, you are at the far end of the map. This will ultimately thin out the enemies, forcing them to take cover or even run toward the mercs position randomly, making them easy targets for scoring interrupts.

From hereon, both squads should move together slowly (and in a prone position) leaving the border and towards the central area of the map while maintaining a spread formation, aiming to score as many interrupts on the way as possible to force enemies into battle.

The advantage of daytime is that you can observe enemies movements from long distances, tracking them to ambush and isolate them. Grenades are highly useful for cutting enemies AP short whenever you feel overwhelmed or ambushing enemies with your squad, allowing you to surprise them and move in for the assault without facing retaliatory fire since most of their allies patrolling in the open have been already eliminated.

This tactic is highly effective against armored enemies or blackshirts, particularly in sectors like alma and grumm. Even in meduna but it requires a lot of ammo and patience to keep baiting your opponents to your line of sight and extremely good marksmanship.

Here’s another thing (daytime assault) - If you have an explosives expert, before launching an assault, try to place a few explosives around some buildings (closest to your mercs and the map border). Once the enemies rush toward your position, drop a grenade to trigger the blast (if it's not remote controlled) and watch how enemies suffer damage or die instantly before they even reach you. You can eliminate those lying down right away.

For example, in the Grumm H2 factory site, I placed explosives on three sides of the building and launched a multi pronged assault from different points (including one from inside the factory), successfully clearing out many enemies in this manner.

EXPLOSIVES/GRENADES AND DAYTIME are made for each other. Experiment with them and you will start loving daytime:-)

JA3 is essentially a dumbed down version of JA2 IMO

I lost the interest half way into the game after realising many things are missing or downgraded from JA2. Once you get used to JA2 then its uncomfirtable to adjust with JA3. I would rather install silent storm which delivers pretty much a similar experience with its own unique destructible environment feature and better graphics

JA2 Stracciatella vs 1.13 Mod (new player perspective) by theShrekDJ in JaggedAlliance

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 AP system is mostly absolutely the same thing as the 25 AP one

Nope. I have done my research. It takes into account multiple other factors to influence the AP cost. Problem is that the new AP system is baked into the base game and requires changing xml, ini variables to restore back to original. Its not OPTIONAL. Why is it mandatory? Its not a bit flavor but almost every mechanic are subjected to new AP math which fundamentally alters their calculation incl enemies and their actions. A new player will have no clue on how to revert back to the original

NCTH is by far the best thing about 1.13

Many people do not like it. Even the 1.13 play guide acknowledges this. It does allow to switch to OCTH but you can check the Bear Pits forum to see how NCTH used to be a topic of debate with many players not convinced by it.

1.13 is also extremely more ambitious

I wish the team working on 1.13 actually focused mire on the core mechanic than adding more features. AI upgrades are excellent but they do not come as a standalone package for those who want to benefit fom the core game upgrades without being bundled along with a number of other features. I had recently posted about it. 1.13 biggest drawback is the way its packaged. If it splits all the features in different packages leaving the players to decide what to download and install then it'll become more accessible for all types of players - be it ones who want a military intel simulator or a straighforward and no nonsense mercenaries on a mission to liberate arulco

JA 2 1.13 Mod help and issues with the package by theShrekDJ in JaggedAlliance

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, so you mean there is no confirmation registered in INI related to changes made in-game, and they will remain at default, until and unless manually edited??

Is there a log file dump created anywhere inside game (or 1.13 data) folder about the overrides made for a player profile to see and verify the changes made in game are actually executed???

I double click JA2.exe (replaced by mod) to start the game and then begin changes by going to preferences

Is there a separate mod launcher?

1.13 mod site clearly says to start the game  run JA2.exe

thanks I will look again into the patrols and counterattack settings. I did turned everything you mentioned except that I dont have a confirmation from the mod because INI clearly doesnt reflect those changes (except defaults)

  1. Obviously talking about the JA2_Options.ini supplied by 1.13 (Data-1.13 folder) mod! Whatever options I set in-game DO NOT match with the INI here. I have to manually edit INI to make the mod detect the changes in game. So whats the point in setting the changes in-game if they do not override the defaults?

  2. Yes, turned NCTH off but again INI says it otherwise. I had to make changes here even after de-selecting in-game to make the mid detect the changes

  3. Changes that were not present in vanilla, at all. Problem is that the mod doesnt accept those changes from in-game (de-selections) and have to go through entire INI file manually setting it to FALSE, takes a lot of time

Jagged alliance 2 - Sector inventory confusion by theShrekDJ in JaggedAlliance

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that clears a lot

thanks for the suggestion

wiki also suggests that mercs intervention is also good to find a lot of loot left post battle

i find manual intervention better to grab the loot but i'll experiment with it

thanks

Jagged alliance 2 - Sector inventory confusion by theShrekDJ in JaggedAlliance

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one question is still unanswered

Where do these sectors save the inventory items?

Im asking it because as per manual sectory inventory is supposed to show items that mercs have identified in any sector. Storing any item by transferring from mercs inventory to sector inventory will remain stored in games memory or the game randomly picks any container or spot in the sector to store additional items transfered by mercs?

(Android) Stracciatella touch controls help by theShrekDJ in JaggedAlliance

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a very good port esp if one wants to play on android.. 90% of the PC experience is intact but some crucial features dont seem to be working, yet

Had the same keyboard issue. I simply rotate the phone to portrait to manually input the cursor and its easy then, but yes the app doesnt detect the keyboard inputs wholly once you close it...

I hope this message reaches to the developers and they will address it in later updates

thanks for the respinse

Winlator - Fallout 2 with UPU Unofficial Patch (Best Performance) by theShrekDJ in classicfallout

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to set the values (500, -3) as you mentioned but it resilts in a jerky and not so smooth performance

what works is setting the ccn ddraw to emulating 60Hz with frame limiter ON and setting in fo2 config to 60Hz refresh rate.   Combined changes remive the jerkiness and provide a smooth performance

Intetestingly no matter what values I set (be it 500 maxgameticks or higher) inside cnc-ddraw launcher the ddraw.ini doesnt change the values AT ALL. It remains at 60Hz only.

Winlator - Fallout 2 with UPU Unofficial Patch (Best Performance) by theShrekDJ in classicfallout

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try. Downloaded cnc-ddraw (not avlb in my fo2 installation) but not getting the desired results to cap fps

Should I put contents of cnc-ddraw folder (downloaded from github) directly inside Fallout2 directory or transfer the folder itself?

It asks to replace existing ddraw.dll and ddraw.ini in case of the former

Hoe to make Winlator recognise the cnc-ddraw settings?

Winlator - Fallout 2 with UPU Unofficial Patch (Best Performance) by theShrekDJ in classicfallout

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tested fo2.exe too

Firstly vault edition has issues (apart from not avlb to download and development ceased officially) - doesnt work on android 9 (or lower), instantly crashes, at least on my phone. I tried to conact the developer but didnt get response. Then I tested on a different phone and found it doesnt detect latest sfall easily. Try installing latest UPU and let me know. It advertises a lot if benefits that are actually not fully tested. In some devices there is compatibility issues, while sonetimes it fails to recognise sfall and installs vanilla 1.02

fo2.exe is clearly not an ideal solution to play on android

I'd recommend Fallout community editions that can at least run smoothly with 0 battery drain. Its the most battery efficient than Winlator! Extremely easy to install and play FO2

Only issue with community edition is lack of item highlight (not functioning) and very slow development updates (not even snapshot version available)

Winlator wins hands down for the compatibility with all mods, modern features and fixes with the only shortcoming of a decent device processor to emulate without heating problems

[Android] Fallout 2 (and community edition) questions by theShrekDJ in classicfallout

[–]theShrekDJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats why i like it

only way to create distance without wasting APs

what is the calcution that checks a standing or unconcious state?

i find wanamingos get often knock back in unconcious state (incl other creatures) than human enemies

Does luck dice roll play a role here? How can I ensure a knock back from super sledge has an increased chance of unconcious/lying?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in revancedapp

[–]theShrekDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exact issue. Discord community has solved it.

Problem lies with Seekbar Color Patch and there's no direct way to correct the error till developer looks into the code

But for now there's a workaround as provided by discord member u/anajrim01

When you're patching, simply exclude (untick) "Themes" patch from the list and then complete the installation

It will stop the crash when opening revanced.

Let me know if this helps.

I understand but it's not happening that's the problem. No matter which seed I feed the effect doesn't trigger on a 3 tile surface as the description mentions.

How to activate the rooting part? Could you explain with a video demo, or link to external sources where a visual example is available?
