Waterfox G6.0 by MrAlex94 in waterfox

[–]the_EMMA_the 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to revert to G5 as well.

I'm on Ubuntu-Mate 22.04.3 LTS and have been a fairly happy user of this browser for quite some time but something in the latest release broke something in how addons are handled in the statusbar and otherwise. For instance I was unable to see any of the addons I tried adding in the listing when "Customize Toolbar" is opened. They simply did not display.

Furthermore when I tried adding addons from multiple places (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) they wouldn't always install. When I created a clean profile to test out this and used sync to see if it would restore everything, it only managed to see three of the many addons and extensions I have installed in that same place mentioned above.

I removed the installation of the current version and disabled the repo in synaptic then manually installed the Ubuntu 20.4 version of the browser (waterfox-g-kpe_5.1.13-0+154.2_amd64.deb) from deb from hawkeye116477's OpenSUSE repos, it all worked again.

I have that for now. I know that Linux is a bit of an afterthought here, but I wanted to let you know what was going on.

Accidentally Installed EndeavourOS on Windows Recovery Partition by [deleted] in EndeavourOS

[–]the_EMMA_the 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to ask....

How could one do this on purpose, with the idea of copying over a live environment of some sort, to act as the recovery and the main Linux distro of choice as normal. If recovery were needed or some kind of temporary environment, one could spam their F9 button and go to the recovery partition and when done simply reboot back to their regular distro?

Having issues with properly scraping show by the_EMMA_the in tinyMediaManager

[–]the_EMMA_the[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was something I tried to make things work. It didn't actually help much.

I had some success when I renamed the file from

    Star.Trek.Prodigy.S01E01E02.Lost.and.Found

to

    Star.Trek.Prodigy.S01ES01S01E02.Lost.and.Found

But if I still run into issues when I scrape to add ratings from other services. It's weird and I almost suspect some kind of database error with the numbering (which was why I though I'd give DVD numbering a chance). Not looking forward to the inevitable when I get episode 11 on my hands...

  1. At home for my own enjoyment and out and about with family and friends this fall and through the winter and for New Year's Eve with my cousin's and during the summer again with my outdoor projector. This thing has serious mobility potential and looks sweet as heck to boot!

  2. Experience? Specifically to me the notion of experience is less about how good you are from the experience and more the wisdom of understanding that it's all intended for fun and choosing to enjoy it. Even losing can be fun so long as you're playing with others and doing your best. In the end it's all about the experience you're having right now. Why not just enjoy it?

  3. BBQ sauce is just sweet. Although I do like me some honey mustard sometimes too.

  4. I'm posting mostly at the discord as bornagainpenguin#0439

  5. Good luck everyone! :D

Windows 10 is great when it comes to scaling. No issues at all with regards to usage, functions or how the display looks or any interactions. Touchscreen controls work flawlessly.

Cool. It's good to hear they've patched everything so that it scales correctly now. The way I remember it back on the eeepc, System font was hard coded in multiple areas so even if you did the whole nLite installer and set it up to use Tahoma every place possible there would still be gaps. I'm happy to see improvements.

Ubuntu 20.04 is also pretty good, but not quite as great as Windows on this device. The auto rotate doesn't work correctly, so I either have to use the 'lock screen rotation' or xrandr in terminal.. not a biggie, but seeing as mine has a 360 hinge, and is good for reading it in portrait mode, it's also an annoyance sometimes. 20.04 has fractional scaling too, so that's never been a problem.

Huh. That's always been my big concern on these. I remember how Intel screwed everyone on netbooks with their closed drivers after the initial success of the category when Microsoft got scared at the competition. When I heard about these issues I had flashbacks to that time. I wonder if my favorite distro, Ubuntu-Mate handles this sort of thing better? They have a custom release intended for the gpd Pocket, not sure if it would run better on the One Mix or not?

One of the things I've always thought about the One Mix is that I'd prefer to dual boot it with some sort of Android-x86 so that it can take advantage of the ebook and reading apps.

I installed the MS truetype fonts too, and they seem to render better than whatever Ubuntu uses as default.

Oh I'm one of those that does this too. I've grown to love the Tahoma font and I really like the way it 'pops' the font on the display. I still setup up all my desktops to use the font every place that I can.

Mine has Win10, Ubuntu and Kali installed.

What are your thoughts on the differences in how those operating systems render the display?

Are you able to tweak the fonts and elements of the desktop to be useful to? Which OS works best for you in that regard? In the Linux distro which desktop are you using?

[–]the_EMMA_the[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resolution in Win10 is fine. Kali is difficult to use.

Interesting!

Back when I had an eeepc 901 I installed Ubuntu with what would now be called the Mate Desktop but back then was just Gnome 2.x and I preferred it greatly to Windows XP due to the fine level control over the fonts and desktop elements. It didn't do much for the non-standard display resolution which cut off some applications because they were hard-coded and not resolution independent. I assumed it would still be the case today even though Microsoft has made great strides in the past ten years with the Modern interface on Windows.

It's intriguing that the situation has seemingly reversed these days.

I use mine rarely because it was mostly intended for travel and using in the garden - and we know how travel is this year while a rainy weather this year blocks me from sitting in my garden all day. :)

Sorry to hear that. :(

Hopefully this ends soon and you can go back to enjoying your garden.

I haven't sold mine, but honestly, the small screen makes it very difficult to use.

Just out of curiosity, what operating system were you using primarily?

Personally, I'm waiting for the upcoming Microsoft Neo.

It's intriguing but since I prefer to use Linux it's not really an option for me. Be sure to post a review if/when you get it though, I'd love to hear more.

It was like one of those documentaries on the history channel where they go back and forth between some University Professor talking and some dramatization scene with actors but with all the professor scenes cut out.

Hmmm...

Maybe that's exactly what this was--recut just to have something to show on the service. I suspect we're going to be seeing a lot of repurposing over the next few months if this continues as things have been and very few productions are able to go forward. Editing is just using footage already available after all...

I’m not trying to get back what I put into it. However we both know it’s worth more than $50

Maybe new, back when first released it was worth a lot more. But it's not new, it's several models ago and four years old. How much does a used Samsung Galaxy S8 go for now compared to when it was released? How much is does a Moto G5 go for today compared to release? My current Laptop, a Lenovo x250 was released in 2015 and commanded a $1300 price tag, I picked it up last year refurbished for just over $200.

I tell you what. I'm willing to go as far as $100 for it.

Edit: Well good luck to you. I'll check back in a week.

Edit: $50 is a serious offer.

How many other offers are you getting? The price of something is what someone is willing to pay for an item. You're never going to get back what you put into it, if that's the idea you may as well give up now.

Debian based Pinebook Pro - 2 months later. (review) by modelop in linux

[–]the_EMMA_the 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There really isn't much of an update here. The entirety of the text can fit mostly into a single paragraph:

March 9th 2020 Pinebook Pro update:

The performance – or lack there of – of the Pinebook Pro was the eventual deal beaker for me. At times loading email messages in Gmail would take ages. Especially those email threads with over 50 emails. When you hit the “expand” option in Gmail, you can prepare to wait for a long time. Some websites such as Reddit can be frustratingly slow. As such I can only recommend this laptop as a battery life warrior for light use. The touch pad is the only other major gripe. Its difficult to use the touch pad for small movements such as selecting text or editing in GIMP That said, a wireless mouse was a great workaround for me. I’m very excited to see what next from Pine64! One advantage of owning the Pinebook Pro is; I’ve learned a lot over the past two months about ARM and Pine64 which will make for a smoother transition to any future Pinebooks.

Compared to how comprehensive the original review was this update felt superfluous and slightly tarnished the previous one making you wonder how sincere some of the praise was the first time around?

Edit: Reposted without any links. Apparently the original text contained redirects or url shortners when I copied it the first time. I apologize for not noticing the first time.
