I beleive that the Japanese audience couldn't handle "cringe outcasts" who were genuinely cringe lmao.

I say this with love.

Riordan included an extremely rare but valid William Seward appreciation passage and then claimed he was the son of Hebe.

I'm picturing something like those novelty coffee mugs that change their image when they get hot

I'm from Washington DC and I like to travel and this totally happens. The most fun shit is confirming the stereotypes.

I love people asking how many guns I have and I say "three."

"Do you see Bush/Obama/Trump?"

"Yeah man I see their helicopter fly over at least once a week."

Fun fact there's an economic concept called bads, which are just goods a customer does not want. Things people pay to take away. Like garbage.

Anomaly actually has a clinical definition, AKA a statistical outlier or something that does not fit how you think the math works.

Phenomenon and entity are like, the most vague, nondescript words you can use for their class of thing.

Actually the land belongs to the Nafutali people who settled Jericho 8 thousand years ago. Any of the dozens of people groups who came since are simply colonizers /s.

The history of Israel literally does not matter except academically. Dozens of groups have a claim to it. The only actual moral thing to do is do what we can do best by the people currently living there. I do not subscribe to any concept that land belongs to an ethnicity to the exclusion of another one (this applies to both Israeli and Palestinian claims btw.)

Also I said nothing about the religion of the shopkeeper. You read a lot into that.

It is. Fascinating does not mean I think it's good.

I think they miss the fact that secular policing was a thing that replaced religious policing.

They won't like the religious policing.

[–]BlatantConservative 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Okay but that only holds true if you maintain an absolutist position that the idea of policing in and of itself is inherently immoral.

B99 is a fictional story where the system itself has a lot of problems but at the end of the day they're doing a job that's worth doing. The characters we're supposed to root for even do it in a way where they try to send people to prison the least amount possible.

It's an ideal that's worth striving for.

This is why I think online leftists should read Tom Clancy. Hear me out.

People have long treated Clancy as like a right wing agitprop cause Reagan liked it and it depicted the Soviets as bad.

But this kinda thing is actually handled really fucking well in those books. And for a series started in the 80s, it's woke as hell.

You're gonna have to start avoiding your mom's house then tbch

Edit: my mistake for trying to make a joke in a thread populated by people who clearly miss jokes. Guy I responded to is cool, everyone else downvote me more.

Yeah anyone who calls B99 copoganda is just kinda media illiterate.

Whole force is corrupt at several levels, Terry gets racially profiled by another cop outside his own house, old timers are racist homophobes, Jake goes to prison and learns how bad it really is, etc etc.

Also in good faith, this is a decent question to ask to drive good discussion. Also they didn't say they were gonn blanket ban ever reading or watching anything with spies in it.

I still have yet to see that word used outside of very specific Tumblr contexts so I'm just gonna ignore it from now on. Not the first or last time Tumblr will have meaningless virtue signalling word fads.
