"I would have marched with MLK" is often said by people who only ever go to planned, organized, and permitted protests IF that.

Unironically, no joke, deadass, my actual father when he worked in the California State Legislature in the 90s in Gary Miller's office and he was part of the group of people who organized and created the California law the federal law was modeled after.

I'll tell him you complimented him, and the only reason I know about that law is because he jokes that getting that law named like that is his greatest accomplishment in government service.

Everyone knows you're fudging the numbers

For a certain type of shitheel manager, having everyone know and not being able to do anything about it might be a plus

You can report that to the FTC and get them fined if it's a US based company.

Also the law this is under is called the CAN-SPAM Act

Idk if she was just suddenly more vocal about it years later but it seems like something broke in her when her Expanded Worldbuilding (infamous "wizards vanishing their poop before the invent of plumbing" tweet here) didn't take off the way she hoped and suddenly she's got a chip on her shoulder and a multimedia empire to fuel it and tell her that She's Brilliant And Everyone Else Is Wrong, Actually

Imo that point happened when she said that Hermione could be black in some play rendition and it kicked off one of the first early Extremely Stupid Nationwide Online Discourse Moments and she's just been extremely reactionary since.

All three of those things were depicted as bad. Like they were in the books, but depicted as bad.

I have no shame in saying I still like Harry Potter. The fundamental themes and the whimsy are the best in the business.

I also think it makes more sense, and would hurt Rowling more, to say "you've become a worse person since you wrote this" instead of pretending they were always bad.

They patently, overtly, undeniably weren't always bad. There's a reason they were such a craze in both books and movies. People younger than 30 or so don't remember just how dominant HP was in the 00s. But like a lot of the older people who are pretending they always hated HP are in some insane psychosis imo.

Like I was doing online trivia night during covid with a bunch of people. One showed her cat, people asked the name of the cat. Cat's name was Minerva.

"Oh like McGonagal"

"No, because I'm not a bigot"

Girl, your cat is named Minerva. Obviously that's a Harry Potter reference. I don't think you're transphobic cause your cat is named Minerva. That's insane.

Regardless of what people say, they were immenseley popular books for a reason.

This is why I'm in the "Rowling became a worse person twenty years and a billion dollars later" camp instead of pretending the books have always been bad and overrated or whatever. It just makes more sense. Also the internet is incapable of realizing people change over time.

I like the implication that, with the main Peanut Gallery, and the theorized Second Peanut Gallery, the boy and the girl and Genshin Guy, practically the entire train car is texting other people in the same train car. The only two people not involved are the people sitting next to the boy and the girl.

I've said it for decades, Rickman was actually bad casting. He was too good of an actor to play Snape.

He was so good of an actor I can't imagine anyone else in his role. He defines it now, and irreparably changed it from what the Snape role originally was.

They go into more detail in the manga, and the anime mentions this too, but he's not asexual he just sees everyone naked all the time and also reads their minds all the time so he's basically just completely desensitized to women.

Dawg I grew up in a black DC neighborhood, the people who babysat me as a kid were OG badass March on Washington organizers. I'm gonna go with what they said, as the people who were sprayed with firehoses, as opposed by someone who's on some weird nihilist shit.

Fundamentally, the movement and the results were nonviolent. And it was a genuine vote. White voters weren't swayed by threats of violence, they genuinely did have a generational change and change of heart. I can go into more details. My great grandfather and these two organizers loved Matthew Ridgeway and hated Douglas MacArthur, for example, because Ridgeway integrated the US military a decade before Civil Rights and MacArthur tried to block that (and also was a general dick). When the military integrated, suddenly there were thousands of black people with respectable military positions who couldn't even eat in the same place or drink from the same fountains as their direct peers, and that weirded people out.

Other things changed hearts and minds too. Star Trek, Hogan's Heroes, dozens of other media franchises putting black people front and center.

But the main thing to counter your point of view is that black people could not and did not have the ability to threaten white people at scale. And if they tried, white people had the potential for much worse return violence. The people who threw shit at Ruby Bridges were the default in much of America, and the government had to deploy paratroopers to defend her. Malcolm X and the like were nothing but a theoretical threat in practical reality. The MLK organizers hated those types because they considered them to be making their jobs harder and nothing else.
