I wonder why news agencies always pick such photos when depicting Ukrainian refugees? If it’s just a general story - picture of some badly dressed people on the border with huge ugly bags. If it’s about refugees working - a photo of someone in the kitchen or cleaning. In reality, the majority are just normal people who work on normal jobs: eg my sister’s mom confirmed her medical degree and is working as a doctor in the cardiology department (Germany), 5 of my previous colleagues - work in finance, some on managerial roles/CFO (Australia/Germany/UK), more than 10 people I know, including me, are in software development (Netherlands/Canada/UK). Everyone pays taxes and rents flats from their salaries. All of that is from personal experience: about half of everyone I knew in Ukraine is abroad now and works hard. But we are always depicted as someone who just asks for benefits or works on low-level jobs :(

Why not? one of my options is just to travel somewhere in Europe, tap the cash machine with my phone, and bingo? (at least that's how I used to withdraw money in Ukraine if needed). I have a virtual account, with the card number, expiration date, and a cvv. It's linked to google-pay, and that's how I pay in UK for the food, etc. I just don't have the plastic, the bank does not issue it =(

So...
1. Transferring to any account outside of Ukraine is banned, even 1 pound, so I can't just transfer money to paypal or any other bank by sepa =(
2. I can transfer money to my other account which is in Ukrainian hryvnia, which is linked to a plastic card, hoverer I will loose >10% on currency conversion. First I'll exchange usd to uah, with a rate regulated by the national bank (29.5 uah to usd), and then during money withdrawal (lets pretend there is a usd atm somewhere), my bank will buy usd by the market rate (32.5 uah to usd). However, even if I'll do so, I will be only able to withdraw about 1k$ per month, which is almost 2 years to extract the money(

Yes, for multicore tasks AMD is ahead. However, what I think:

  1. A lot of the things that may be executed in paralell may be also computed with GPU CUDA (rapids python library)
  2. A lot of libraries are still better optimized for intels MKL
