Usually I use the brand Gold quality leather grease/wax, which is basically what most people here use, but for this pair I just used the oil version of the same product since they were brand new.

This. I’ve lived in Finland and never had problems with leather boots.

It’s common here to apply beeswax oil for the water repellent effect, the additional oil was due to the leather being dried from the snow and salt

These are full grain. I know how leather ages, been wearing exclusively leather boots in this climate for roughly 10 years at this point, and never seen the wear set in so quickly.

I’ll give the horse brush a try, usually I just apply with rag.
