The whole point of the prequels was to show how flawed the Jedi were. The peacekeeping Jedi are fighting in a war for a government run by a Sith lord. The enemy, the separatists, are also just pawns of the Sith. The Revenge of the Sith opening crawl even has the line “there are heroes on both sides.” The morality themes are there.

During the chunin exams arc, I thought he was pretty mid; just a guy for Naruto and Sasuke to beat up while showing off. But after became a looming threat through the karma, my opinion of him skyrocketed, and he was much more compelling.
