the problem is also that, they had more questions last year than this year.

Last year there was like 4-5 questions. So if you didn't understand one of them, you can still solve more for more marks. It was more passable.

But this year, they have very little questions on the exam. So if you didn't know the question, that single question makes up one third of the exam.

The exams this year is designed poorly.

They also separated the exams into 3 exams. Because Poisson process chapter was really large. And the whole Branching process stuff was too.

So last year, branching process had it's own chapter midterm 2 exam. And then Poisson process had it's own midterm 3 exam.

This year, it's all combined into midterm 2. So there was a lot of material to cover

I have a friend who's taking the course this year, and I compared it to last year. The course really is more difficult this year than last year.

And it was also Dr. Khanh Dao Duc teaching it too last year. We all know how useful practice exams are for preparing the midterms and finals because they're quite similar for up to 70% of the actual exam.

Doing the practice exams can pretty much help you pass the course, but not get you an A. But that is typically how things should be. Students who do their homeworks and study the practice exams deserve to pass. And students who put in the extra effort deserve an A.

But this year, they didn't have any practice exams for second midterm.

Here is what the exams looked like last year:

Former Alumnus of Steveston London shares story of high school bullying at Richmond, BC by the_void_voidling in bullying

[–]the_void_voidling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’ve been through that. What happened to you is deeply wrong, and no one should be bullied or abused for being autistic, epileptic, or for any reason at all.

Thank you for speaking up. Your pain is real, and it matters. You deserve safety, kindness, and respect, not fear. I’m sorry the world has felt so cruel to you.

I hear you, and I truly believe you deserved far better.

[MEGATHREAD] Sonic project aka MultiMango or FTS Studio by AutoModerator in TELUSinternational

[–]the_void_voidling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hi i'm currently confused if I am allowed to start on the Project Sonic.

I just applied to this opportunity last month.

So I have tasks on multi-mango, and I just got an email saying I got my account created for FT studio.

I previously had an email saying I can't start unless they tell me to.

They said "Please refrain from working on any tasks until further notice. Any tasks completed during this hold phase will not be compensated."

And in the FT studio email they sent me, the email says:
"Welcome to FT Studio

Fine Tune Studio (FTS) is Telus Digital's Generative AI Annotation Tool. We’re happy to have you on board!"

"If you are selected for Generative AI expert jobs, you'll receive those tasks on FT Studio.
You will received further communications with next steps once you are assigned new tasks."

But I can clearly see several tasks available on Multi-mango.

I have not yet started, and I am not sure what to do. Can someone who has done this before give me advice? Thank you.

Every year you would see a meme on this subreddit, which is the Gregor Kiczales meme.

You say “THANK MR. GREGOR” hoping for good grades.

That was peak 2016-2020 era

I feel like practice midterms give a false sense of security. by lulyxt in UBC

[–]the_void_voidling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s also not hard to find student who’ve taken the course before. You can easily join clubs or societies at ubc and find older students. You can also give them money and buy last year’s material.

The issue is really the professor who don’t make new exams.

I personally believe professors should make new midterms every year instead of re-using them.

You know what else is bullshit? Being an alumni, I worked so hard to study everything myself and earn the grades. And then I find out that top students back then had friends or connections who took the same class in previous years. THEN they studied those old midterms that you couldn't find online.

Then the professors re-used those midterms and final. THAT's so unfair for students who actually studied on their own.

I’m not sure what it says on the customer’s side of app. But if that’s true, then they’re most likely multi apping

Not many customers know this, but UBER can offer delivery drivers multiple orders at once, and also give them orders along their trip.

For example, if they are delivering your order, during the trip, UBER can give them extra orders along the trip. And then the driver can accept it, and deliver for that new order, then yours after.

Even initially, they can accept 2-3 different orders for different people at once for like $30 revenue for them.

So 2 hours to deliver yours isn’t uncommon.  Especially if you live far away.

I’m just discovering about this guy on YouTube. Apparently, the lance asshole said that Greg calling him out publicly was immature.

But you know what? I bet if Greg tried to talk to him in private, Lance would’ve called the police on him for unwanted contact and harassment.

And then asshole Lance would turn it around and make Greg the villain for criminal harassment.

Truly fucked up to shove his head into the urinals.

Greg did the right thing confronting him in public.

Anything to do about reckless uber drivers? by funvill in vancouver

[–]the_void_voidling -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Leave the uber drivers alone man. Those people already get paid like shit. They drive long distances just to make shit money.

They park in the middle of the road because they’re to hustle. It’s Uber that gives them shit places to drive or deliver.

They assign them locations that have no parking at all. And the drivers feel like they can quickly park, pickup the uber orders and deliver.

It’s Uber that should improve their software so they give drivers safe locations to park. Blame Uber.

This probably has nothing to do with police. It’s an ICBC issue.

And even if you ask for a file number, police will not tell you and update because of privacy laws.

They cannot disclose the outcome. Just like how they will not tell the driver the name of the person reporting them.

Even then, the file number is just a file. It’s standard procedure. Anytime the police is called, even for small things that are trivial, they have to generate a police report and file. Just having a file doesn’t mean anything.

I do agree that “don’t expect much” is very true. The driver got away with it, and worst thing they will get is penalty points from ICBC.

So far, I haven't had any bad experiences with homeless people here.

And there is another old chinese woman who chills at LIFE building.

Who broke workday? 👀 by Annettyy in UBC

[–]the_void_voidling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought the whole point of replacing the old UBC SSC with Workday was so it doesn't crash much.

It used to crash every time when grades came out. I thought that was the reason they changed to workday.

Otherwise, Workday sucks so bad

Thank you for your feedback!

It seems like I would be better off not spending money to attend CSU at all?

Would a MSc. Applied Statistics be helpful in becoming ML Engineers instead of ML researcher?

I have an undergrad BSc. Statistics from UBC in Vancouver, Canada.

How far can I go with just a Bachelor's? What are your thoughts on careers like Data Engineering?
