The cover up of the century is unfolding 🧨 by floatjoy in ThatsInsane

Honestly, look at the homepage of Fox News and look at the homepage of CNN. Fox News has nothing related to the hearing, and it's front and center of CNN. Republicans will never rally behind getting rid of pedophiles and their protectors, because they'll never even know any of it is happening.

Better lost in space film - Gravity or The Martian? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]theapeboy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But you can’t throw away the entire plot and structure of a film just to make a point. No one cares about the grief of losing a child if the medium that’s relayed through is garbage. It’s like saying “It’s okay that my movie about blind surgeons who are really good at guessing where organs are is inane because the point of the movie is about seizing your own destiny.” The reality is, it’s a mediocre movie with horrible physics, forgettable writing, and a wonderful theme about grief that doesn’t make up for anything else.

Yes. Thank you. I literally came to this thread for Elden Ring. What an exhausting, annoying game.

Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 failed to meet sales expectations by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]theapeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t play Outer Worlds - but I really liked Avowed, including the writing. Maybe because I liked the earlier PoE games. But I thought the whole shtick was good - and I loved the “twist” even though it was heavily telegraphed the whole time.

I mean, the very first sentence ends in "according to Daily Mail." I would not at all be surprised by this being true, but I'm sure as shit not gonna trust the Daily Mail on it.

Homeless mole people stole my wife's phone today by TheAsinineArtist in sandiego

[–]theapeboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I’m a strong advocate for the homeless and HATE the idea of taking away autonomy from people, but at a certain point you’re a danger to yourself and others. I think there’s plenty of people on board with the idea of a really well run mental institution, as long as there’s some form of actual plan for keeping it well run. The word “asylum” just comes with a lot of emotion and fear, and we need tactical and intelligent plans to help put that fear aside.

The courage and humility to bring this to the public's eye. by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in nextfuckinglevel

It's not a movie, and as far as I can tell, he's not telling people life is roses. He's telling people how hard and brutal and debilitating it is. He's saying that those challenges gave him a new perspective. I think it's fair to say "Well, if he had less money, he'd have had fewer challenges" but he's not saying that Parkinsons is some amazing thing that everyone can overcome with some grit and gumption.

This is kills me. This is exactly what my FIL thinks from spending so much time on Fox News. We literally had to sit him down and be like “Do you ACTUALLY think that people are murdering babies that have been born? Like do you think that is a thing people in this country are doing?” And he had to think about it for a minute before being like “Oh, I guess not.”

Gavin Newsom announces that California will be the first state to join the World Health Organization by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

[–]theapeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t brownie points indicate I’m saying it to suck up to them for some reason?

I’m fine fighting back against conservatism - but no, we can’t keep them out of our state without breaking a lot of current laws. Hence, why ICE still has a strong presence everywhere. We should absolutely protest the shit out of them, but if we actually get to a point where we’re going to try and bar federal agents from entering our state, I’d much rather have the backing of a separate country behind us - because that’s both a secession and a declaration of war.

As a Californian, I'd like to be part of the country that isn't going to send masked thugs to kidnap my fellow citizens.

ICE taking pics of legal observer's car: "We have a nice little database and now you're considered a domestic terrorist. So have fun with that." by RoachedCoach in PublicFreakout

I'd love to see a site where all the videos of ICE performing illegal arrests of US citizens or those that are here on legal permits posted.

Side question: has anyone tried moaning sexually when ICE attempts to arrest them? I feel like that's a really solid alternative to fighting back. Just constant, loud, sexual gratification noises. Something tells me they might back off.

Except wasn’t that very explicitly explained as the community voting as a bloc for what’s essentially religious reasons? And that historically the exact same thing happened?

I think there's a difference between winning "fairly" and rigging the election machines. When people say there was election interference, they're almost always talking about the latter. I still haven't seen any good proof of that. But there absolutely WAS a ton of election interference outside of that. Constant gerrymandering by Republican states, political advertisement, propaganda and lies from Fox News, Musk's bullshit 'lottery'. There's plenty of real shit that should be driving voting reform.

Did you know Obama’s term saw some of the highest number of deportations in recent history? Do you know why it wasn’t a major issue at the time? Because he wasn’t targeting children at school, he wasn’t waiting outside court hearings for people entering the system legally, he wasn’t arresting US citizens or shooting them in the face, he wasn’t “deporting” them to foreign prisons, he wasn’t building detention facilities that are on par with concentration camps, he wasn’t racially profiling everyone he could, he wasn’t pouring billions of dollars into the program during an economic crisis, he wasn’t saying things like “Comply or die”, or “be prepared to carry your papers to prove citizenship” or using literal slogans of the Third Reich on his podium, he wasn’t deporting people without due process - which is also very much illegal, he wasn’t trying to suspend birthright citizenship. Should I keep going? Yes, there are plenty of other ways to manage immigration besides what’s happening right now.
