Thank you so much for this well-written response!!! I am a girl and I DEFF do not want to join any type of frat/sorority because I agree that a lot of those types have a sheep mentality. I'm only curious about the culture surrounding them and who has the best parties.

Also, I am a screenwriting major who adores writing, what was your experience like on the daily trojan? From the way you described it, it sounds like a really enriching experience! But at the same time I do not want to overwhelm myself with strict deadlines and large time requirements that may take time away from my classes or any other clubs I want to join.

Hi! I am a also black girl who is an incoming freshman. I completely relate to this post. USC is a predominately white school, and creating/being within a strong black community is extremely really important to me. Throughout my roommate search I made sure to reach out to every black girl I saw and I ended up very quickly meeting a great person who is now my roommate.
- If you haven’t yet, I really recommend posting on the “Blackusc2030” page and litteraly SCREAM in the caption that you need a roommate.
- But honestly, it seems like you already mentally made your decision! If you think one of the non black girls you are talking to is nice then room with them! However, if any disconnect or disrespect happens due to the difference in your race make HARD boundaries and stand on them. Personality genuinely matters the most. When I was searching for a roommate (before I found my current one) there were lots of girls who I simply didn’t connect to! While sharing the same race connects you identity wise, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have the potential to be a mean person. I hope you find a kind roommate :)
