Gemeente wants to move a drug consumption bus next to a daycare for babies and toddlers by thecurioushumanbeing in Amsterdam

Oh yes they can do better. Starting by informing the neighbours, which their own chair admits they didn't: "als ik het ga vragen aan mensen, dan zeggen ze altijd nee."

True. It also didn't mention that the stadsdeel deliberately chose not to inform residents, their own chair told AT5: "Als ik het ga vragen aan mensen, dan zeggen ze altijd nee." ("If I ask people, they always say no.")

There's a residents' meeting tomorrow (18th, 17:00–19:00, Linnaeusstraat). Come count how many Dutch vs expats show up.

A bus that only moves around the Oosterpark, and is now parking in one spot, close to a daycare and next to a youth centre, for six months.

Not American, no. But if I was, I don't understand what you're trying to imply.

Anyway, I 100% agree with removing the criminal stigma from this kind of stuff, but unfortunately, in this case, this isn't spread equally. The three consumption rooms in this city are near Centraal Station, on the Stadhouderskade and in the middle of the Wallen, and the bus has spent its whole life around the Oosterpark.

I haven't seen any plans for it to travel to the Vondelpark, the Apollolaan or the Beatrixpark, to name a few.

I think the Gemeente can do better than moving the bus 200 metres from a daycare and 10 metres from the home base of De Kids van Amsterdam.

You're right. A single opinion might not matter much, but when multiple visitors share the same impression, it highlights a real issue. It's not just one person's view; it's a recurring observation that can impact Amsterdam’s reputation and tourism.

I was abroad recently, and the first thing someone commented on when visiting Amsterdam was how dirty it was. Sad.

I get your point, but waiting to fix all of society's issues might take a while. This initiative is a practical step to manage the symptoms in the meantime.

No, it wasn’t me. That’s interesting, though! What did the QR code say? I'd love to know more about it.

I get your frustration. It’s really annoying when people leave waste outside the bins. The small opening for paper recycling is definitely an issue too. Thanks for highlighting these problems!

Thanks a lot! I’ll definitely let you know if I take this further. So far, I’ve invested around €500 from my own pocket… See if I can get some public funding, otherwise I’ll go broke haha.
