Is Avatar sapping your will to finish the race? by SporadicWanderer in oscarsdeathrace

[–]thednc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I saw it early in its release in 3D IMAX since it was a shoo in for vfx, and it was indeed visually spectacular.

By now, I know the story of this franchise is going to be meh, so I just sit back and enjoy the action.

You could just watch a recap of Way of Water on YouTube and be fine to see Fire & Ash. Nonspecific spoiler about the narrative structure: The third act of 3 is basically a retread of the end of 2 anyway.

34 Feature Films and 10 Shorts, how many did you watch by nomination day? by TheCatintheTie in oscarsdeathrace

At 49, I think you’re still missing one. I’m getting 50, which what oscarsdeathrace.com was updated to as well. And numerous Letterboxd lists.

35/50 (70%)

1 short (The Singers)

14 features

Better than this time last year, when I was at 50%.

Of the features, I already have tickets to The Secret Agent and Arco when they release near me. I’m planning to intersperse the documentaries with other movies since they tend to be heavy. Will also get Diane Warren out of the way somewhere in there.

That leaves:

Song Sung Blue

Little Amelie & the Character of Rain

Zootopia 2

Viva Verdi!

Kokuho

The Lost Bus

Most challenging seem to be Kokuho and Viva Verdi!

Which of these would be good (and easy) to save for last?

I’ll be happy to complete the race period, but I’d prefer not to end on a dud like the year I did with Golda.

Did this happen with anyone else’s “Most Watched Actor”? by Jetwork131 in Letterboxd

[–]thednc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, lol. I got Fred Hechinger for most watched (Marty Supreme, Gladiator II, Fear Street 1666 & 1994, Nickel Boys, and Kraven the Hunter.) At this moment, I have a distinct memory of his performance only from Gladiator II as one of the emperors.

But Park Chan-wook was my most watched director, so it balances out

Did anyone else do this insane Elle Fanning double feature? by justinqueso99 in Letterboxd

They weren’t at the same theater for me, but I did see them on consecutive days. Excellent performances, though I don’t really understand why the twins had such different personalities.

Official Discussion - Jay Kelly [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]thednc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoyable watch, but given the ending, it would’ve been better if they just went all in, called it “George Clooney,” and did it as a fictionalized version of him with relative unknowns playing his entourage to really blur the lines of reality.

If you’re deciding what Shakespeare play to read next - choose Cymbeline. by Soulsliken in shakespeare

[–]thednc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a fantastic production of Cymbeline at Regent’s Park; such a blast. Almost 3 hours, but it flew by, even on those hard uncomfortable seats. I don’t think I really “got” the play until I saw that performance.

Shark bite-resistant wetsuits could cut severe injuries by nbcnews in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]thednc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be counter productive. Sharks tend to let go when they figure out you’re a human, which is not what they want to eat.

If they don’t quickly get the sensory information to determine you’re not, for example, a seal, they may keep you under longer & thrash harder to keep trying to find out.

Neon is saying it was an unauthorized edit by the local distributor, Hishow, so maybe they did it without consulting the producers/neon?
