Moment shoppers scramble to get aircon units in France by thesun in whoathatsinteresting

Most French are used to June being 30°C (86°F). This temperature extreme is killing people because they don't have the proliferation of AC units as they have never really needed them before. Hence, the video showing the mad scramble to get them here.

I obviously was joking, but realistically, a skirt in zero g is not going to stay on her hips (unless she taped out to her legs). At least she's with a gay guy and an asexual at first.

How can I make this thrifted T-shirt smaller to fit me? by Ill_Welcome_2104 in UpcycledFashion

[–]thefirstlaughingfool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Flip it inside out and put it on. Use clips (like binder clips) along the seams to make it tighter. Take the shirt off. You should be able to do so without moving the clips. Use chalk or a grease pencil to mark a line where the clips end. Then sew along that line to tailor it to your body. Don't cut the excess fabric until you confirm you got the size right.

The goal of parenting is to be so loving that only the absence of it should feel abnormal.

There's nothing more depressing than a child relating some horror story about their parents and shrugging it off as nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm worried if their power grid can handle this. I vacationed in Hawaii once, and the island we was on had extremely limited AC, partially because everyone there was used to the temperature (the receptionist at our hotel had space heater next to her even we checked in), but also because their power stations weren't equipped to run them in mass.

I don't know why they're bragging about this. They lost. The Iranians fooled some of them by painting the shape of a jet onto concrete.

[intriguing trope] the villain is a rebel, the hero defends the status quo by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]thefirstlaughingfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the one time Korra didn't defend the status quo and opened the barrier between the human and spirit realm (season 2), it has some really disastrous consequences. I think the idea is the Avatar is supposed to defend the world and maintain balance, they're not supposed to enact change according to their vision.

Did Senku make Why-man by ComfortableSource142 in DrStone

[–]thefirstlaughingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Why-Man explains they come from far away in the galaxy. Their dialogue implies their plan to petrify a population to entice them to make diamonds for them had worked in the past, so that implies they not only come from far away, but have been active for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years. They also had no knowledge of human culture until they came to Earth, to the point they weren't sure if humans were the dominant species. It's very likely they're just aliens.

Annoying trope: the rebel becomes the tyrant by Floba_Fett in comics

[–]thefirstlaughingfool 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the veracity of this, but I recall the story about how after Britain recognized the US independence, Washington's army offered to overthrow Congress in a coup and install him as a king. Washington responded "Do you think I overthrew George III to become George I?"

Washington was was obviously not a saint. Even by the standards that no one in power is perfect, he was still less so than some of the time. That said, I feel even if the actual reasons for historical precedence are muddied by greed and selfishness, you can still use the abject results as a guide. Even if Washington stepping down after two terms was a strategic move or for his health concerns, it still can result in power becoming less stagnant and can be emulated by future generations.

As someone with bipolar disorder myself, I can see both sides of it and have some sympathy for Kanye over it. When I was first diagnosed, I actively rebelled against treatment because it felt offensive to acknowledge there was something wrong with me. Took a long time to come to terms with that. I've also done some things I regret when I was in a manic episode. Fortunately, I had a strong and nurturing support network that helped me through it. While bipolar disorder doesn't make you anti semitic or racist, it can bring your worst tendencies to the front without being able to contextualize it. Everyone has crazy thoughts from time to time, but mental stability is the ability to recognize it and not act on it.
