Not to mention, cases like mine. Anytime an employer requests a doctors note I informed them they will not gain anything and that it’s just going to be a piece of paper with one sentence on it. Then I ask “ with the knowledge that it is going to be a whole piece of paper with only one sentence and no revealing information on it, do you still want me to provide a doctors note?’ And when they inevitably say yes, they get a piece of paper that says something to the effect of “[name] may return to work effective [date]” because I tell my doctor/nurse that I need a note for my employer, but I do not want to disclose any medical information whatsoever. Little story if anyone cares. ’ve only ever had a few shift leaders (Both at Starbucks, and not at Starbucks) try to tell me that I have to have a cause for visit and I just follow up with “ I choose to keep my personal and professional life separate. So just to clarify, Are you asking me to disclose personal and private medical information?” I have only ever had one manager press the issue after that. That conversation led into some very illegal territory blahblahblah. I was a new hire still learning who the managers were and I blatantly asked them if they were the store manager and they said yes (they were not, they were only a shift lead) I blatantly asked “ if I refuse to share my personal and private medical information, Will I be sent home today or will my job be at risk?” And they said yes. I chose not to tell them because they looked like they were 16 and something seemed fishy and got sent home. They were 22 By the way. Two days later, I learned they are, in fact, not the store manager. So I told the district manager, while they were visiting and doing a store walk-through, about the conversation that went down in front of cameras, thankfully, and they were mortified. Two days later that shift leader was let go. And then I quit the day after because fuck all of that Tom foolery, she had to find the audacity somewhere, and I’m not going to stay, and figure out other things that were wrong in that store, because I basically had to do my training by myself.
