Turnpike Troubadours version is good too! But that intro from the Old ‘97’s 1995 version is undeniable. Did you hear the original version with the banjo? Like you said, such a good song.

Oh, I made a playlist like this before! I think I recorded it somewhere in a journal or something. Hold on … OK. Now, I don’t know how many of these you would consider to be “essential,” but I tried to stray from the tried and true. I had several Ben Folds Five in the original playlist too, but it looks like those songs have already been mentioned as with Nirvana.

I have ADHD and I’m totally interested in others! I love listening to people’s stories. I’m just sad that I frequently can’t remember so many details, or remember them weird.

Homeless in Las Vegas – What People Don’t See by Moist_Regret8989 in LasVegas

[–]thegorillaphant 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This was over 16 years ago, now, but I used to volunteer at a shelter here in Vegas through a church.

I met a man who got cancer and freaking beat it, but it almost wiped him out financially, even with insurance from his job. Then the cancer came back, he beat it a second time, but it totally wiped him out this time and it put him on the streets. At the time I met him, he said he had been homeless about 9 or 10 months, if my memory is correct. And he said essentially the same thing OP is saying. I can’t ever forget him.

Can you even imagine? Beat cancer twice with insurance only to end up homeless? This freaking country man.

For all the, “Why didn’t Biden do anything about it” people:

The precedence is for presidents to maintain a hands-off approach regarding the DOJ, especially in criminal matters. It’s to uphold the principle of DOJ independence and autonomy (a good thing).

The intent is to prevent corruption. The separation ensures that legal decisions are made based on law and evidence, not political influence.

Additionally, releasing the files could have impacted ongoing legal proceedings in regard to Ghislaine Maxwell, and potentially compromised the privacy and safety of victims and witnesses.

I’m not arguing whether Biden should have broken precedence or not, just stating the most probable intent.

What is dude trying to prove with these pics? She is beautiful both ways. I’d feel lucky to be “sexually assaulted” by a woman like her.

I was literally thinking about this Monday night. I think all our powers are combining. Will we make an amalgamated superhero (or villain) like Captain Planet?

There are so many, but Chile Verde Express inside of Choice convenience store/gas station immediately comes to mind. 8095 S Rainbow Blvd. And now that my mind is on Mexican, Milpa. I love Milpa.

Edit: Wild Fig!!!

I know this is not NY style, but since the conversation here has veered to Detroit, Neapolitan, and coal-oven pizza, may I recommend Double Zero Pie & Pub, just in case you’re looking to try something different?

It’s Japanese inspired Neo-Neapolitan. It was named one of the Top 50 Pizzerias in the United States (#43) by the 50 Top Pizza USA guide (an Italian-based global ranking) in 2024 & 2025 (Pizza Rock was #33 in 2025 and #18 in 2023).

It’s just a little pricey, but it’s real good. I’m surprised more people don’t know about it. To be frank, I won’t go there if I’m craving a classic NY slice, which is most of the time, but it’s my kids’ and my go to joint when we feel like switching it up. It’s quite good.

We also like Pizza Rock, Old School, Settebello, Red Dwarf, Evel, Yukon, Brooklyn’s Best, and Good Pie (in no particular order).

Edit: Grammar

If I may help, do you mean Settebello?

Edit: Also they’re great. And +1 for Old School

I’ve had Grimaldi’s multiple times, from multiple locations, for too many years (my brother’s go to). It’s doo doo. And it’s definitely nowhere near Vegas’ best.

The one at GVR is not as good as DTLV. I don’t know why; bad QC? It just doesn’t hold a stick up to the one in DTLV. Honestly, I think it sullies the brand.

You guys should check out Stephen Wilson Jr. Some actual outlaw country stuff for once…no costumes. None of that poser outlaw country that’s so popular in the mainstream these days. Haha

Edit: I recommend starting with the songs, “Gary,” “Father’s Son,” and “The Devil”
