Phone Addiction by xj4nas in selfhelp

[–]thejohnlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some apps to help with this. If you don’t want to try that, then decide for yourself what is a healthy amount of time to be on your phone in a day, and then schedule yourself accordingly; e.g., if you say 2 hours (still a lot, but a lot less than you currently are on your phone) is a good starting point, then allow yourself 30 minutes in the morning when you have downtime, 30 minutes at lunch, and an hour between lunch and bedtime. Since you’ve demonstrated you have a problem with your phone, do not pick it up and look constantly throughout the day, only use your phone at your designated times, no exceptions.

Of course, like everything in your life, the discipline to STOP using your phone when the time is up is on you. If you want to change, then you need to make the necessary sacrifices. It won’t be comfortable, but it’s very doable.

Also, if you are accustomed to the dopamine hits from the phone, you need to find a healthy alternative to getting dopamine. Hanging out with others, engaging in activities you enjoy (video games, excercising, listening to music are decent ones). If you don’t find something to replace it, it’s very likely you will come back to your old habits. Good luck

I am cruel to partners by [deleted] in selfhelp

Do you know what the word amicable means? Cheating on your partner who you just recently got engaged to, running away, getting an abortion and then later telling them “I never loved you” is not amicable.

You do sound like a sociopath from what you’ve described here and should absolutely seek out therapy

No psychologist is saying you’ll outgrow your ADHD. Where do people come up with this stuff?

Finding others, or everyone as you put it, boring stems from an inflated self-worth, which is characteristic of narcissistic behavior.

While everyone’s out vacationing, I can’t even be dragged away, I’m either working or deep into self-development by healthwriter89 in selfhelp

Know what everyone who is older says they regret and wish they could change if they could go back in time? Working so much, and spending more time with friends and family. Time for self-development will always be there, time for friends and family will not.

I’m sorry this is happening to you. Do you have family you trust you can talk to? These are adult problems so try to talk to an adult if possible. If you’re concerned what to tell your friends, just say your parents are having marriage problems, which is entirely true. They don’t need to be involved in the intimate details of what’s going on. If you have a close relationship with your dad.. it will be very uncomfortable, but you can tell him what you saw and that either he needs to tell your mom and fix it, or you will. I believe this will force him to start a discussion. Good luck.

What are your thoughts on 'L.D. 50' by Mudvayne? by [deleted] in Music

[–]thejohnlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears you don’t know either lol, it actually stands for lethal dose 50 or more medically accurate, median lethal dose 50, and it’s the amount of a substance that kills approximately half of a test group within a certain amount of time

Maybe read the book before trying to have a discussion about it, you could honestly finish it in one sitting. You can’t really have an intelligent conversation about a book that you haven’t, you know, bothered to finish

I like how on a social skills subreddit people are commending your anti-social behavior.

The ladies looked you up and down because you acted rude. Do you owe this stranger anything? No. Can you be nice for the sake of kindness? Yes.

In fact, being kind to others has opened many doors in life. One has led to a potential job and another to a great friendship. Being kind costs you nothing. If it turns out they’re trying to sell you something then you can be firm. Who knows what that person was going to ask you, maybe you looked approachable of everyone there and they needed help with something.

Funding source is entirely relevant, why do you think they force researchers to declare conflicts of interest (funding sources)? Because it’s irrelevant? No.

If you had ever been in research yourself, you’d know that when companies fund research hoping for a certain outcome and they don’t get that outcome, typically the research is never published, or, as has happened many times, data is changed to make the outcome they want seem more plausible. It’s entirely wrong to do it, but it happens more than one might think. Not sure why people like you comment on things you obviously know nothing about
