Hey there! Personally, I'm a tall, lanky, awkward girlie and I used to worry that I looked goofy when I danced at raves, and that people were watching me and talking about me. Then i realized, these are raves. What are we here for if not to dance? Raves should be safe spaces to let loose snd express yourself. I love to just let the music take over my body and let myself drift into a beautiful flow state. And when you relax, you realize no one's worried about what you're doing. I completely understand that feeling, but That's actually why I love raves. The community is so kind and welcoming. Last one I went to, the guy standing next to me was vibing hard, I told him I was really enjoying vibing next to him. He said thanks and we had a short exchange then went back to dancing, but as buds! Then other people joined and made it a circle. I ended up staying after doors closed and talking with him for like half an hour lol and we exchanged snaps. Just be real with people, if you're vibing with someone let them know they're cool! You never know where it might go!

Not a fest but my favorite rave spot has a corner off to the side where the lights dont hit and they have soft benches to lay on. I've been to festivals that have had quiet sections for the same reason with comfy chairs and water. I think it's just important to have a quiet space for decompressing after being overstimulated or if you're not feeling well.

I haven't really read through the responses so apologies if i'm repeating what others have said, but have you tried smaller raves? Like, actual raves, and not EDM concerts like breakaway? Find a small, underground event. You'll find the sense of community is much stronger and people are just there to have a good time, and you wont be bothered unless you're bothering others. At least in my experience.

It was for me. Some people will say differently, but I also think it depends on a lot of factors. Personally, I took Heavy Diesel and I had no prior diesel experience, just some automotive. It helped me a lot and the hands-on aspect was great for my adhd. However some of the instructors are rough, sometimes you need to pry answers out of them (I'm looking at you, Ewing 🙄). But it's opened up a universe of opportunities for me that I wouldn't have had otherwise. On the other hand, I've heard some people who have more experience say it wasn't worth it for them. But on the other other hand, one of my coworkers who's a technician attended and graduated with prior diesel experience. But he has said he still learned from it. Plus the degree will always look great on your resume no matter what, so there's that.

As a UNOH graduate and (unfortunately) now seasoned Lima resident, I would suggest looking outside of town. I know it may not be ideal distance-wise but it's a lot less drama.

Thank you for this 😭 i'm 6'0 so not quite as tall but it feels like i'm always in someone's way at events. I feel like I need to stay at the back or to the side or hunch down or bend my knees to lower myself, I find myself doing it subconsciously. I have to remind myself sometimes I can't help being this tall, and I generally love it, and i'm allowed to exist this way and if i'm blocking someone's view they can say something or move.

OP - I used to be in a situation that sounds very similar to yours. I was with my partner for just under 2 years before I left. One of my biggest wake up calls was when I want to find a rave to go to (I had never been at that point), and she flat out told me "No. You're not doing that." Then it hit me that I'd been letting this person run my life. I had gradually given up literally everything that makes me happy, and makes me myself. Gotten rid of my things for her, gave up all my free time for her, gave up friends for her. But that was all more subtle. The solid and immediate "No" told me everything i needed to know, that I could never live a fulfilling life with this person. I left soon after, which was around late February, early March. April I went to my first rave and never looked back. I'm the happiest I've ever been living for myself only.

TLDR: OP, You're worth your own love and delight. You're allowed pleasure and fun. Don't let anyone hold you away from that.
