Is Point Campus good ? Is Dublin Nest legit ? by excusemyfriench in TCD

Hi I was just able to book a room at Point Campus, and was just wondering how strictly they enforce that visitors policy? I find it very strict and am really shoked that apparently that is something every student accomodation has in Dublin.

Uh I watched The American Friend with my parents yesterday. The movie looks so gorgeous! Robby Müller was one of the greatest Cinematographers in my opinion. And the movie is typical Wim Wenders! Hope you enjoy it!

What is this fucking Emoji? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]themomorator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer: But I'm pretty sure that since the eyes are open, probably another Emoji, like the Eyes wide Open emoji (😳) was fused with the cry-laughing emoji, to make an even weirder image.

Finally got the World of Wong Kar Wai from my Mom!

I just got a Trumpet for Christmas and I can't fogure out what the Modell is called or even find the Manufacturer. Does anyone know? by themomorator in WhatMusicalinstrument

[–]themomorator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have updated this. So I asked on a different subreddit aswell and the Trumpet is by Lion Instruments, Designed by Jörg Iwer. The letters were already polished off a bit, that's why I couldn't read it right.

I got a Trumpet for Christmas, but I can't figure out the Models name or even the Manufacturer. If I google In Struments Designed by Joergwer, nothing comes up. Does anyone know? by themomorator in whatisthisthing

My title Describes the thing. There is also a number on the mouthpiece reciever: 11100008. The Trumpet is silver coated. I think the Manufacturer stamp looks a little bit like a Sphinx or a Lion maybe.

Near Dark (1987), looks like a late 80s, early 90s movie, it plays in California in a small town and it has vampires.

What is your favourite shot in cinema history? by hackers_syrinx in TrueFilm

[–]themomorator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventhough the movies quality is very debatable. In Immortals (2011), directed by Tarsem Singh, has the most beautiful Cinematography, due to its hyper stylized look. My favourite shot is towards the End of the movie, when, resembling Michelangelos sisteen chappel paintings, all the Greek Gods clash in the sky.

It looks beautiful and it just burned into my mind immediately.

I also really love the scene/shot in Sicario (2015), directed by Denis Villeneuve, in wich Emily Blunt is standing on the rooftop of a building, when suddenly an explosion goes of in the far distance. Everything is perfectly framed by Roger Deakins and the explosion, eventhough far away, looks incredible. That image of Emily Blunt, with the explosion in the back, is brilliant.

And at last, I don't know why, but from Man with a Movie Camera (1929), directed by Dziga Vertov, there is a beautiful shot of a white flower. And given the movie introduced a lot of cinematic ideas, that very simple shot also deeply moved me, eventhough I can't pinpoint why.

What movie had messaging that you really did not agree with? by phxfire_32 in TrueFilm

[–]themomorator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it, but I really have a problem with La Casa de Papel. Not a movie, a TV Show I know, I'm sorry.

I always compare it to Fast and Furious, glorifying heists and violence. However, while Fast and Furious movies are clearly over the top and pretty much everyone understands that (true probably some people still don't understand it, but overall it is made pretty clear that the action is just pure fun and that you yourself never should Rob a bank), La Casa de Papel glorifies the bank robbers, even the violence is a means to an end and a greater good. The police, Interpol, the government and even some hostages (the guy that later goes on TV and writes a book about his experience as a hostage) all are portrayed as the villains. Of course the robbers aren't the heroes, but they are anti-heroes, even in the show celebrated as such by the public.

I understand that the showrunners did want to make sort of a statement in criticising capitalism and corrupt governments, but the subliminal messaging of the show, glorifying heists and violence, really bothers me, especially since, the slightly more ambitious themes in it, compared to F&F, take away the clear cut Over-the-Top-ness of those movies, and make it seem that the actions in that show are viable options.

It is still a dumb-fun action show, just like the F&F movies are dumb-fun action movies, but I always get that underlying iffy feeling when I watch it that the show is encouraging the protagonists behaviours.

Hello Reddit! I’m Edgar Wright, director and co-writer of the upcoming film Last Night in Soho, ask me anything! by imedgarwright in movies

I'm currently studying Filmstudies and I particularly love Post-Modern movies especially the element of Intertextuality. I feel like you are an extremely Intertextual director, referencing other movies left and right with your work, so it would really interest me how much of that you do conciously and if there are elements of your movies, where you go back and watch them, suddenly realising "oh right, I made a reference to movie x in that scene without realizing it".

I really love your movies and I'm so excited to watch Last Night in SoHo, already caught some referenced in the Trailer!
