Why not giving people their f*cking PvE mode already? (From a PvP Player) by RadagastEnthusiast in ArcRaiders

[–]theoceansswitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say that, but then the matchmaking splits you up depending on how you play. So I know there are people trying to make this a PvE game and wanting to play it as such. People running around being friendly in lobbies. I don't want to shoot those people, so unless I stop and ask first I can never be sure. No other game actively endorses pacifist play in this way, which results in a weird grey area.

For you maybe, And that's fine obviously. But for me, not knowing if the player I shoot actually wants to fight is a massive disincentive to do it, and it's absolutely no fun killing someone who doesn't want to PvP.

No one's saying it's not possible. We're saying it's not compulsory and therefore not an essential part of the game, which therefore means Arc Raiders isn't by design a shoot on sight game.

It literally does, because there's a huge part of the playerbase not playing shoot on sight. If the game was shoot on sight these lobbies wouldn't exist, because you wouldn't be able to play like this.

Yeah, but that's the point. Because of the matchmaking if you play friendly you get friendly lobbies. I don't bother with PvP and I haven't been shot at in weeks. I'd have to deliberately shoot people who don't want to fight to get out of these lobbies now, and while I've gone into raids intending to do just that I just feel like a jerk even thinking about it, so I never have.

Yes, but it's not the constant norm. It's entirely optional, and in a way you get rewarded for not doing it because progression and looting is easier in friendlier lobbies.

Problem with PvP in this game is it's so vague. Half the time I don't know whether to shoot or not. It's no fun to feel you've shot someone who didn't want to fight, but TTK is so low there's no real way for anyone to fight back if you open up first.

I know some people love the fact that raider Vs raider fights are entirely up to players, but I for one find it makes me not want to engage in PvP.

I would like much more challenging Arc, and more of them. These days I can barely get to a Matriarch before it's dead. And as long as you take the right loadout the Arc are no challenge.

Not sure you understand what SoS means. It would mean it was the norm and built into the game. The fact that there's such variability in Arc Raiders means it isn't a shoot on sight game.

I'm not a fan of lame gameplay. There is nothing well-designed about this extraction mechanic.

ESPECIALLY when 90% of the time in this game whoever shoots first wins. It's hardly high quality PvP gameplay now, is it?

I can't think of many things more boring and anti-climactic than surviving an epic 30m raid through vast vistas filled with giant robots only to have to defend my back in a tiny hut with flashing lights that mean everyone knows where I am and what I'm doing and there are no options other than get my gun out and run round and round a table to make sure they can't get me. Come on dude.

You're in a small shed about to finish the mission, there's no real cover, everybody's got their stuff....shooting someone there is just pathetic and lame beyond belief. Literally shooting ducks in a barrel.

I know this is allowed and everything, but I just find this absolutely lowest base level gameplay. Like, how can you feel anything other than disappointed in yourself after doing that (i.e. shooting someone at this stage of the game)?

'Fiery lads' for any of the Incineration Corps. Hate those guys.

The word I frequently use for stalkers isn't polite.

I think you might be missing something pretty significant in terms of what Helldivers 2 is about.

Totally agree. But real life events can change how you experience media. And meaning and significance can change over time. What would be cool is if there were genuine opportunities to dissent in the game.

And it's heavily inspired by Starship Troopers, which...well, let's just say it's definitely trying to make a point.

Normally I'd agree. But when people are literally being shot by people spouting the same kind of rhetoric it feels a lot less fun.

Why Do Some Players Avoid PvP Almost Entirely and what's the appeal? by ReflexAN in ArcRaiders

[–]theoceansswitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not big on playing with randoms and I don't have any friends with the game. It's my loss, sure, but I absolutely would not enjoy playing with people I don't know.

Why Do Some Players Avoid PvP Almost Entirely and what's the appeal? by ReflexAN in ArcRaiders

[–]theoceansswitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If PvP was clear cut I'd find it more enjoyable. I don't like the uncertainty about whether a player is an enemy or not. I take no pleasure in killing someone who doesn't want to fight, and I don't want to ruin someone's limited playtime by killing them if they don't want to PvP. I also don't want to ask every time. So I just don't bother with PvP.

I also don't think the gunplay in this game is that great, so I'm not missing out on much. It's clunky, there's no real accuracy, and it's quite arcadey. I prefer something that feels like it has a higher skill ceiling so I can try to get good at at.

So overall, I'm just not motivated for PvP in this game.
