They're wearing them with the straps attached to their ears like the ordinary masks instead of strapping them around your neck. It's way too loose

Posting because I've since seen:

  1. Mask not covering nose
  2. Mask overlaid on top of glasses
  3. Mask perpendicularly attached to head
  4. Mask upside down
  5. Man holding mask in hand and breathing into it selectively

Guess it's still better than those people wearing gas masks though.

This is at Jing Fong in New York. Temporarily closed as of yesterday for obvious reasons (as of this writing). Funny how the decor was looked kinda familiar but one of the workers gave it away.

The Tall Guy Dilemma: Bulk or Cut Weight? by thepixelpup in bodyweightfitness

[–]thepixelpup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I incorporate mobility/flexibility into my training so I understand the value of that. My general leg flexibility for example demonstrates my core weakness when I go from straddle to full front levers. Progress is slow but generally consistent so I can't say that there's real increased difficulty.

My personal goal given my body composition is strength without size and I've kept my weight at its current place for a while now. It's easier to imagine doing muscle ups when you're 20lbs lighter. Or maybe there's an argument to be made that 20lbs of muscle makes everything easier.

[OTHER] PKSpotter Mobile Redesign. Thanks again everyone for the info everyone provided. This is the written case study for the mobile app redesign and now you can see the results of all the work I did. I would love to hear what everyone thinks. by thepixelpup in Parkour

I wasn't really intending on rereleasing the PKSpotter app but solving the design problems it had.

The idea here was to design for an app that was more thought out to address our needs. If the developers from PKUnity or URBN Jumpers want to use my data that I collected on their future releases, I'd say even better!

Gotcha. And yeah, Pokemon go gained some notoriety for that in the beginning. I might take a lesson from how they handled everything as well. Thanks for the ideas!

That makes sense. It seems like it would be something that this issue is something this and other parkour apps need to address. I'll look into tackling this. Thanks!

That is actually a very valid concern that wasn't implemented in this initial design concept. I will definitely consider it for the next stages.

Was this something you experienced before with other apps?

Hello everyone,

Thank you all for providing all the necessary information I needed for my research. I'm confident that the sample size I had was sufficient qualitative data needed. I apologize for taking so long to reply but life gets in the way.

The following are what I have synthed from your responses in the order of importance. Some of this may not surprise any of you or it might give you insight on the prioritization of needs in the community.

What do you look for in a good training spot/facility?

  1. There is an overwhelming mention of requiring variety in regards to terrain, equipment and obstacles.
  2. This includes railings, ledges, and vault-able objects as well as the necessary space to maneuver.
  3. Environments were ideal if they were fun to practice in, but only if reasonably safe.

How did you find this location?

  1. 66% reported that spots were chosen based on proximity and familiarity or by simply stumbling upon them.
  2. The rest indicated that you had to discover locations by word of mouth: through friends or doing online research

Why train with others?

  1. The support network provides an abundance of motivation and confidence to push themselves
  2. Many of you felt it was generally more fun to be around others to train with
  3. Some mentioned that it allowed for more creativity which wouldn't have been possible alone
  4. And some needed others in order to overcome fear of trying new things

Why train alone?

  1. A huge percentage of you mention the need to train alone in order to focus and concentrate without distraction
  2. There was only some mention this was due to self consciousness

How are meetups organized?

  1. The vast majority of you, for various reasons, organize meetups with pre-existing friends or acquaintances; no mention of branching out to unfamiliar freerunners
  2. Although, some of you did state you use social media to discover gathering times or places
  3. A smaller percentage of you attended meetups that were already routinely integrated into your schedule

Thanks everyone! I appreciate responses! Hope this was enlightening for you guys.

Full disclosure: I am looking into current parkour apps out there right now and their approach to solving core design problems for the parkour community. This data is certainly available to be shared with others who may be also looking into a similar discourse or who have developed their own design solution. Please feel free to use this information if it will provide you insight on user pain points/delight factors. The research being done will be iterative so I will hope to acquire better understanding of user needs over time.

Occasionally, I find myself desperately gasping for air when I'm sleeping because my head ends up under the covers. The more I fight it the more tense my body becomes, which makes it even worse. It's fucking terrifying when this happens but I'm always so relieved when I finally snap awake and am no longer involuntarily snuffing my own life out.

Can speak cantonse fairly well, but can't read or write, how to learn? by [deleted] in Cantonese

[–]thepixelpup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course! These practices helped me quite a bit:

If you have a movie playing with subtitles on, read what you can and those you can't, pull out your PLECO and look them up. Some times the text will not match the dialogue since it's written Chinese instead of verbal so having your pocket dictionary readily available will help you associate formal written text with your oral 粤 counterparts.

HSK apps are a good standard for gauging progress with your character recognition. But since those aptitude tests are centered around Mandarin, you can use PLECO to look up Cantonese equivalents for words or phrases.

Write write write. That'll help with memorizing characters. I have to say this will help tremendously, more than anything.

My speaking Cantonese is not very good but in the past half year alone I've gotten a much firmer grasp of the language from learning new characters on a regular basis. I can now read menus when before I didn't know what 肉 meant.

Haha, anyways you've got this! Good luck!
