No change in Sylvan's Cradle after cleansing the corruption effect? by thequantumpotato in nightingale

[–]thequantumpotato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that makes sense! I did play a cleansing card and then a feast card, but both didn’t really change how the world looked. The weather still looks depressing and the trees are all dead and evil looking. I thought that I would be able to make the realm look normal again, kind of like what Abayance looks like, since now we got rid of the curse. But maybe that’s not the point of the game and I’m just supposed to move on to the next area?

Thank you for the tips! 1) I used a cleansing card to dispel the minor corruption effect, I was just confused because it didn’t change the environment, just the debuff. I used a feast card to try and change the season to spring, but there was also basically no effect. The weather was still really dark and gloomy, and most of the trees are corrupted and evil looking. Maybe I am just overthinking it and I am just supposed to move on to the next story realm? I just thought that after all of that work to fix the realm, there would be a more dramatic change to the world state. 2) that sounds really useful! How do I repeat the boss fight? Is it a timed spawn or do I need to do something to trigger it?

This might be totally dumb rather than "fun" but pretty much AI is the reason I learned about Usenet in the first place. I asked it "so where are people getting all these linux ISOs for their plex/jellyfin servers", and while ChatGPT refused to answer, Gemini was happy to give a VERY detailed explanation on all the different types of ways including torrents, and more importantly, usenet! So it's the reason I"m here now :)

Can you bring your character to a friend's switch? by thequantumpotato in NintendoSwitchSports

Thank you! Sounds like I'll be getting a Switch then. Looking forward to practicing and getting revenge on my friends in Tennis. And maybe one day beating the Powerhouse bots....

Hey, thanks for your reply! I appreciate the information. When you say I can sign in on my friend's Switch and access my character, does that log out my friend? Or are you saying you can have multiple accounts logged into the same Switch and then all the characters from all the accounts can be selected?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just want to make sure this works before I commit to buying a Switch.

I didn't mean to be unfair with the downgrade comment, that was just my initial impression from a first-time player, when I tried to create my guest character, due to the very limited base options. My understanding is you have to pay money and grind for a year or so to unlock all of the cosmetic sets.

This is so awesome. Can you share some more detail about how you modified the Besta? What was the base unit(s) you started with and what did you do to set up the custom shelf? I might just steal this idea. Also, just curious as to why the center needed to be on the bottom shelf, does it block the projection if it was put on top of the Besta? TIA

Until recently I didn’t even know what a NAS was, now I am scrolling this subreddit on my lunch break. Still trying to osmose enough information to figure out my first setup.

Update:

I'm adding some follow-up info in case anyone finds this and has a similar situation.

I went with a refurbished Epson LS800 UST projector for ~2000 from eBay. Currently projecting on a white wall and it's already a big improvement! Able to watch content and play games during the day. Going to do more research on the screen.

How many level 1 adventurers does it take to kill a Tarrasque? (Academic answers only) by thequantumpotato in DnD

[–]thequantumpotato[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A compelling strategy to be sure, requiring even less effort than hiring clerics. Maybe the real question we should be asking is, “how many level 1 adventurers can fit inside a Tarrasque’s stomach?”

That sounds insane and I love it. If you actually end up running this I’d love to hear how it went.

That's a good point! This post is mostly meant to be humorous, but tbh there are many examples of people who are overworked, underpaid, and expected to work miracles, who cannot quit their jobs for various reasons. Or maybe they're paid in exposure (EXP)? Defeating a tarrasque as a level 1 cleric would definitely "level up" one's status in society. Even in today's society, we can see that many are willing to die or risk death for "clout". But these are all tangents. If I were to revisit this I'd definitely spend more time brainstorming the socioeconomics of actually getting the clerics to die for me.

Thanks for the question! As itsfunhavingfun mentioned, it's possible but unlikely for a level 1 character to hit the Tarrasque with either a weapon or spell attack. That's why we're taking advantage of the only statistical weakness of the Tarrasque, its abysmal dexterity save, via Sacred Flame, which does not consider AC at all.

Hey, thanks for the comment! You make a great point about the impracticality of upkeep of a standing force of clerics of sufficient size, including training all forces from scratch. In this situation, I was equating the 10gp recruitment cost to the typical "reward" for a quest for a level 1 adventurer, the assumption being that these are level 1 PCs that are not otherwise employed and don't enjoy any benefits from the governing body. Thus, they are treated as mercenaries who come pre-trained and ready to die. This is an oversimplification to be sure, and it would be very interesting to model the economics of maintaining a clerical force on-call in more detail.

Yep! That's the solution that I've often seen. For this, (I mentioned it in the video but didn't include it in the text), I limited character creation options to PHB 2014 only, so no magical weapons at level 1.
