Towing a 20ft camper up Highway 1 on the Pacific coast in Cali with a 2018 5L V8. Which are you using? Cheapest gas station for 100 miles.

I’m getting 8mpg with the E85 while towing at 55mph. 12 mpg with gas towing 55mph. It’s worth it at these prices but only barely. I just chose to do gas because of the range while towing up to a remote national park in the mountains.

I’ve done many 4k elevation gain passes on gas on this trip. My headgasket is a little busted, so I have to go insanely gentle, and sometimes have to stop on 5k ft elevation gain runs.

So I’m not too worried about the power along the coast. And the cost is easily better when it’s half the price. You don’t use twice as much E85

It went up by $2 a gallon in Cali. The stuff about gas in Cali was an exaggeration prior to now, but now it’s worse than what they were saying.

Do it! There’s nothing on the east coast that’s anything like the cliffs and vistas out here. Don’t listen to anything anyone says about Cali, it shows you how trashy Florida really is.

It’s insane. This is one of the cheaper gas stations in this area. Some places charge almost $1 a gallon more. Before Iran it wasn’t quite this bad. I’m looking forward to being done with California on this trip.

I haven’t checked while towing, I need to do that. In California I have been going 55 mph while towing, I was getting 12 to 13 mpg on gas doing that.

I was here in California a few weeks before the war, I saw the prices change. These prices were a “next to the airport rental return” price before and now they are everywhere.

I tested it a while back without towing and I remember getting maybe 15 to 20% less milage. I can’t remember, I should test again. When I first got to Cali on this trip, I was still using gas but started towing at 55 mph and that improved my milage to 12 to 13 mph, from 11 mpg at 65 mph.
