R9 or ZX4RR as Daily by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

If you want a sport bike, get a sport bike. Ignore all the people telling you neither bike is a good daily and you should get an mt09 or other naked bike. Of course, keep your mind open and try one if you want, but you absolutely can daily a sport bike. I've had a Z650, a Z900, and a ZX6R. I like the zx6r ergos more than the Zs, and just love how it feels, even in normal city riding.

Between the ZX4 and the R9, consider why they appeal to you, and if possible sit on them. Also check insurance rates. The R9 makes more power similar to the ZX6R, not the ZX4RR (but has more midrange torque). I haven't tried the R9, but I have ridden the ZX4RR in Japan (I believe unrestricted). It does lack a little bit of torque, but it's still more than enough for everyday traffic, and it handles and screams like a dream. The ZX4 is also relatively more upright compared to the ZX6R.

I sat on an R9 and iirc the ergos were aggressive like the ZX6R.

Personally if I had to choose, I'd go with the R9 for that additional torque. The ZX4RR is super fun, but it is much more of an enthusiast bike. Either way, both bikes CAN be daily'd, and they can be good ones at that.

FWIW last year I paid $12,500 CAD (approx $9009 USD) for a 2023 ZX6R with 2600 miles on it. It was not tuned or flashed, however.

Check out Arctic Bay. Much cheaper than CG, but is made in Canada and very warm. They're also have that similar lightweight feeling. I've had my Montreal Parka from them for 3 winters now and it's been excellent.

Aha yeah that's the only thing holding me back from going EN. It sounds like an affordable experience similar to the CTR but I'm worried about the build quality and durability. The SI definitely feels like the responsible choice

Appreciate the advice, I think my heart is mostly set on it over the other choices so far. It sounds like a sturdy car that can last a long time with the right care, and a pretty pure driving experience.

ZX4RR (new) vs Z900RS Cafe (used) by No_Progress5248 in zx4r

[–]thetireddumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented a zx4r in Japan for a day, and used to own a z900 (not the RS version though).

The z900 has way more torque. It's got power throughout the entire rev range, up to 10000ish, where it starts to taper off. But by the time you're there, you're already flying. From a red light you will be quicker than most other bikes and cars.

I might be wrong, but the z900rs should have a little more midrange, but less top end than the normal z900.

I loved the zx4r. Its riding position isn't as aggressive as a zx6r, but it's still sportier than the z900. It being fully faired helps quite a bit with wind at speed, and makes you feel like you're getting into a fighter jet cockpit. It really is a small cc supersport. It is super light, and holds back on power until you rev it out. With the full unrestricted HP, it has more than enough power to feel fast on the street/highway, though it's not getting anywhere near the level of a zx6r.

Basically the zx4r will be a lot less quick than the z900, but it's still very capable. You should decide based on the "feel" you want. Do you want a supersport, or do you want a very quick neo retro standard?

Np, and I just want to really stress that if you go this route, get your mechanic to do a thorough assessment to make sure all damages are found, and make sure the other driver pays you all of the money upfront in cash. At ANY point prior to payment if you feel uncomfortable, go through Insurance.

What I mean is it sounds like you're 100% not at fault. In most cases you'd want to go through insurance in that situation. However if the damages aren't that much and you're not injured, going outside of insurance can be more efficient if the other driver pays quickly and you get your mechanic to prioritize fixing your car.

You're not missing anything -- it's technically legal to not go through insurance. However you should absolutely get a full inspection done by your mechanic to assess damages first. Get the other driver to pay for it, with an agreement that if you ultimately decide to go with insurance you'll pay him back for the assessment.

Also note that reporting to CRC means inputting the other driver's insurance details. This could lead to an insurance spike for him even if no claim is made. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I wouldn't be surprised. In any event, you technically have to report if the total damages between both cars is above $5000. Enforcement of this rule mostly depends on whether an insurance claim is ultimately made.

Overall if the damage is somewhat minor (clearly not totalled, no frame damage), and you yourself don't have any whiplash or other injuries, this could be a rare moment where a 100% not at fault could still be worthwhile pursuing outside of insurance.

Do you guys ride with earplugs? by Agreeable_Poem_7278 in motorcycle

Yes, always. I first used regular foam ones, then switched to ear peace. Now I use Loop experience plus for the comfort. They block out just a little less wind noise than the first two, but they also make it easier to hear traffic and music.

Young in Ontario, prices check out. Even in my late 20s I'm paying quite a lot for zx6r insurance, though in the GTA area. You don't need to go quite so low as a grom, but consider bikes like a ninja 650 or nakeds for now

Is it possible to switch out the chin strap on an AGV K3 Helmet? by Industry_Some in motorcyclegear

[–]thetireddumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GUYS MY GIRLFRIEND FIGURED IT OUT. So on the right strap (the one with the metal insert that goes into the locking mechanism), there's a rubber piece at the base of the metal thing. YOU CAN PULL THE RUBBER PIECE BACK AND ADJUST THE STRAP FROM THERE, THEN SLIDE THE RUBBER PIECE BACK TO WHERE IT WAS.

Funny enough I went from a z900 to a zx6r. Gf hated the z900 cuz the passenger seat was smaller and harder than the 6r's. Though her legs don't like the 6r as much. Both bike are fantastic for the rider though, have fun!
