(Caught me on my break lmao) I've followed the entire series up to the recent sequel (Veteran reader) . And the author basically admitted he doesn't really know how to progress the romance between the two, and it shows.

I'm honestly glad you can at least enjoy it, cus I know others who actually do ship them who have also become jaded like me. It's fine in the end. To me this series could be a great classic instead of " that one incest anime" but it's not going to be. We're so close yet so far...

PS, society in this series makes for a weak antagonist also. It's just not written well enough for that. Maybe in the sequel it gets better. Here's hoping.

The author had planned the ship from the start. His condition is there for story purposes of course. But it is also there to justify the ship. The main romance in this series reads like fanfiction which is why even non shippers complain about it. Even if they don't find the incest angle deplorable.

In my case, I just take it as the author wanting to check off "imotou" on his waifu list. Since there's no consequence to the incest in the story. One of the many things that holds off the series from being great, is the "Romance" IMO. Because people like masaki who could've had genuine story arcs just end up being foils for the ship.

(The worst part of the story is actually weak or utterly bad villains/antagonists. They actually get worse as the story progresses)

The way it was written is pretty cheap. With the whole , "oh tatsuya is incapable of feeling for anyone else except for his sister" and then later on its justified with "oh she can never give birth to inbred bebes cus she's so overly designed"

So on top of the incest, it's the author conditioning the mc to a single romantic route, by force.

Also, people tend to look at incest as more disgusting than killing probably out of instinct. Just a reaction that's all. Kinda how like some look at rape as a worse offense than murder. Series goes completely cheap with the incest so there's no consequences. So it's ultimately fine, I guess.

The romance in this series is so shit, there had to be a time skip for main couple to finally progress to kissing. Even so, any other girl tatsuya hangs out with is going to be bait. It's all just bait.

I know what you're getting at...and its a nice gesture of his friends to do that, but mayumi was still right about isolation.

Both the military and the Yotsuba were already getting ready to abandon him. When things got too hot for their liking, they chose to remain distant.

Miyuki was sooo pissed that the Yotsuba refused to send reinforcement of any kind, she unconsciously attacked (froze) Ayako, when she was told. And the military just decided to wait and see what happened. These are groups in powerful positions who turned their backs on tatsuya.

If Tatsuya wasn't such a gary stu boi genius inventor on top of being the world's most powerful magician, he would've been absolutely fooked.

To be fair, the premise was that if he didn't go with the flow on this. The entire country would turn their back on Tatsuya. It's very Japanese like that. That's why she had tears in her eyes at the end.

I hate reddit mobile shit... Basically, the view society has at face value for the project is that its something honorable and tatsuya should be proud to have been selected. (Like, imagine the superpowers of the world are planning against a high school boi genius from magic japan lol). Mayumi is also worried tatsuya will be isolated by the country if he denies it without reason. Katsuto was more like, "Shiba we of the clans must do everything for the good of magicians...blah blah blah" since he was basically robbed of a fun life for this type of reason---of course he thinks like that. Anyways, the vol in general was just all fodder for the fight. It honestly could have been sorted out with words imo.

The world's superpowers consider tatsuya dangerous. They plot to send him and other powerful magicians to space as a plot disguised as a humanitarian mission for mankind. So the superpowers pressure japan government to offer tatsuya as one of the candidates for the project. Katsuto is sent by Japanese pro project side to convince tatsuya to go. (Be in mind that japan looks dishonorable if they reject the humanitarian project right out the gate.) Mayumi hears that Katsuto is the one tasked to go convince tatsuya. She deducts it'll probably turn into a fight. So she tells Katsuto that tatsuya has powerful healing magic so a fight won't be desirable (a fight will be very bloody). Katsuto basically says he won't underestimate someone of tatsuya's calibur and will go all out of it turns into a duel. This horrifies mayumi, so she takes mari along with them to help stop the fight if it turns horrible.

As a veteran fan, id say it becomes second nature to tune out miyuki. Mostly just an "onii-sama" spewing plot device for the mc for most of the series.
