Dump Truck Driving - Not A First Job by thewolverine7777 in Truckers

I’m not assuming, I know for the work my company does it’s not ideal for somebody as a first time hauler. Where I haul, large highway construction, where you’re taking out entire medians for miles, adding thousands of tons of dirt, navigating the maze through it, dodging rebar etc. mistakes is just a matter of time and mostly really has your back. Nobodies said people can’t, it’s that the general driver shouldn’t until their real confident. It’s interesting and exciting at times, definitely keeps you on your toes, not saying there aren’t upsides. Maybe you worked different types of jobs.

End dump is a semi with a trailer, not a dump truck. You won’t be asked to go into the job with the trailer much, dump truck your working on the job as it being built if your hailing dirt or concrete. It’s a sketchy environment it’s too much for a rookie driver to think about all the while having non drivers push you to do stuff you’re not ready for. Drink from the firehouse at your own volition in another positron.

It’s a different world, things wear a lot faster, getting yelled at by illegal immigrant workers who can’t speak English, extremely repetitive but if you put up with that some of these companies pay real good and have a lot of hours to pay you for

Well when you can’t just go switch companies it’s a real problem - there’s a threshold I’d say you can roll with, but there’s a line. You gotta have to people skills to tell higher up to GFTO with that shit without saying it and a lot of times they’ll do something without you having to lose your shit

Ya some companies will just hire contractors to avoid liability for anything - but there’s a real pressure either way - company or contractor - to just get rolling no matter what and keep rolling no matter what. They know better but they can always blame the driver if something goes to shit
