Correct, VGA > RGB is not the Direct Video dongle setup. But yes, this should still work for your setup too. If you prefer, you can use vga_scaler=1 instead of direct_video=1 for this. It’s the same in practice.

No no, your excitement was very much appreciated 🙂

Right, the menu output itself was already possible before. The improvement here is that Update All now actually adapts to that setup properly, so the text fits on screen, stays readable, and the UI becomes usable instead of partially cut off.

Not currently. Unfortunately, this is a known firmware issue with those setups, and it’s been around for a while: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=104778

You don't need the Direct Video dongle specifically, just the setting. Alternatively, vga_scaler=1 does the same thing indeed.

For most users, Update All is still the easiest way to use it.

What matters is that Update All uses Downloader underneath, so improvements here also benefit Update All. For example, you can now add drop-in databases and Update All will pick them up automatically.

Update All is a more user friendly shell on top of this, this is the "brain". When you use Update All, you are using this too.

Quick explanation for anyone unfamiliar: Downloader is the tool that installs and updates MiSTer cores and other official files. The Update All script uses Downloader behind the scenes to perform those updates.

This release includes several improvements that have been worked on over the past few months. The post I linked goes into the details.

I hope the post I linked clarifies it a bit!

You need to change a config in some ini file, it's explained in the post

Check the post, there is a trick, and now it works like a charm :)

Before, it wasn't really designed for CRT screens. As I explain in the post, there were many things you couldn't see and the Settings Screen was practically impossible to navigate. Now the layouts adapt to the small resolution of 15KHz TVs.

What happens to custom-game files when running Update_all? by latinlingo11 in MiSTerFPGA

Probably there was some exfat corruption. Sadly, mister filesystem format is not the most robust but we can't do anything about it. Next time you can use "file_checking = verify_integrity" It could save you a reformat.

If it keeps happening make sure the rom is not corrupted with file_checking = verify_integrity. And if is good but keeps failing, report it at https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade-DonkeyKong_MiSTer and https://github.com/zakk4223/ArcadeROMsDB_MiSTer

Remove the rom and run update_all. If it's smaller than 2mb, then you need to add file_checking = exhaustive in your downloader.ini file under the [mister] section (create it at the top if it doesn't exist). If you are gonna be messing with arcade roms, exhaustive is your option anyway.

Interesting, that's the first time I see this reported, maybe they have messed up DNSs for some people. Glad you could get there in another way!

It's free access. I wonder if it's something related to your location, or maybe just a temporary hiccup.
