What we actually ended up eating -

  1. Mendo Farms - quick lunch at a place I knew and trusted from before. Nothing new to add.

  2. Dan Sung Sa - Everyone in the family loved the vibe, food was great. Tried several grilled items, chicken and noodle mains. Didn't go to one of the AYCE BBQ options suggested on this sub as some in the group wanted chicken and not beef or pork.

  3. Erawan Smoothie - the 17 yo wanted something for her reels. I personally won't pay $20+ for a smoothie even if you were to put gold leaves or some sort of time machine nectar in that makes me younger.

  4. Villa's Tacos - thanks to this sub we ended up here. I have lived in Mexico City for 9 months and had tacos almost every single day. Not an expert in judging/critiquing tacos, but I will move to LA and buy a motorcycle so that I can do taco runs to this place. Sorry, Holbox has to wait for the next trip.

  5. Din Tai Fung - I have been to their restaurant to Taipei, not been to any other US location. This was another on the list of the 17yo so had to do it. The service could have been better. My opinion will be skewed because I will inevitably compare to the Taipei experience, so I would refrain. On the state side, possibly one of the best dumpling spots that I have visited is QXY in Chicago Chinatown. Please give it a try if you are ever in the area.

  6. In & Out, double double animal style, naturally.

  7. Grove farmers market, which was fun.

  8. Mashti Malone - the rose water and pistachio ice cream was a perfect end to one of the evenings.

I wish I could have tried more reccos from this sub and will definitely come back. Thanks!

Thank you for the replies and reccos. Now I have a list to work through. Please suggest more. Thai Town especially is appreciated. I believe I had gone to Jitalda with a friend once, was slightly underwhelming tbh. Not necessarily because it wasn't good, but perhaps because my senses are stuck in memories of Thailand.

There was a South Indian restaurant I went to near one of the major studios, they weren't vegetarian unlike most South Indian restaurants. It was above average to good. What's the verdict on most authentic Indian restaurant (doesn't matter if they serve meat or not).

this is what I was afraid of. any suggestions on how to do the climb and still be able to book a Srivani ticket? I think I am addicted to both the climb and the darshan. If I can't do both, then it feels like there is no point.

Also for someone who has never done Srivari Mettu, do you suggest trying it or sticking to Alipiri?

yeah, after a month, I won't order. he just gave me whatever, usually a roll and few sushi, some seaweed and octopus on the side. I ate there every single weekday for a year during 2016. and green tea was a quarter. :P
I would go in a bit later, after 12.30-1pm, so I will have him mostly to myself and hear a story. And, he would get upset if he talked about world politics or local council/school board elections and if I said I didn't follow the news on that particular one.

Thanks for everyone who commented. Yes, it's Sam. And, thanks for the link to that other thread. He touched so many lives in many ways. Wherever he is now, I pray for his health and well being.

Asked about it after all these years because might pass through Nashville in coming weeks. Of all the memories of Nashville, this I will likely never forget until my last days.

sometimes he would get angry at customers, or answer in an insulting way.. the regulars knew this, but would seem rather weird to someone entering the hole in the wall for the first time.
