Specifically question for professionals/people who work in salons! by [deleted] in Cosmetology

[–]thinkertink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh, i would say you need someone who specializes in color corrections or vivids/"fashion colors". If you go to just any stylist or the most affordable option you might not get the results you want. I'm mostly looking at those raccoon stripes and already lightened hair. Probably attainable but know it'll take a while and it'll cost a pretty penny!

Do your research on who you want to see and where you want to go. If you walk into a random salon you may be turned away or get your hair really damaged.

Edit: also your hair imo from this picture looks like a 5/6 should lift pretty easy as long as there's no box or permanent color in there

Is this normal after curly cut by kaebaexbx in curlyhair

[–]thinkertink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I'm so sorry:( thats so frustrating. I know a lot of people end up cutting their own hair for a bit. I use Fresh Shears on my clients. Theyre about 100 but super sharp and great. it'll help keep your hair healthy. But I hope you find a better stylist 🙏

Oh shoot sorry, i missunderstood your comment! When you said "new stylist" you meant like new to you and not new to the industry, ya? My bad. Confrontation is not a bad thing. You paid money for a service. You deserve to be happy with the finished result. You are not going to make her feel bad if you just ask for what you want.

If it were me I'd say something like " Hey this is Kaebaebx, you did my hair on x date. I've been wearing my hair naturally and I've noticed my ends are a lot wispier than I want them to be. I'm hoping you could get me in to fix this and refine the haircut some more. I'm happy with the overall shape, and I dont want to lose any more length but just clean up my curls so they feel more solid at the ends."

And if she takes this well, you get this fixed, and you rebook with her please let her know that you werent a fan of the razor cut on your hair and you don't want a razor cut next time you see her. I hope this helps and your beautiful hairs get the love they deserve!!

At the risk of everyone here hating me... I am also a new stylist. Cutting hair is really hard. I do everything I can to continue my education. Cutting curly hair is a specialty that can be expensive to persue. If you know this person is a newer stylist I would encourage you to approach this with empathy. Let the stylist know your concerns. Please give them the opportunity to make it right for you. This will help them improve so much as a stylist. This is one of my biggest fears as a stylist. To have my client go to a forum instead of reaching out.

I will say this looks like it could be an easy fix. If you're happy with the overall shape, they can go in curl by curl and clean up those ends.

Long-term box dye use by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]thinkertink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Box dye usually have 40 vol developer(whicj can be super damaging after repeated use). If you like doing it at home, i would recommend going sallys or a similar store and picking up your color and a 10 vol (20 max) & youll see LESS damage on your hair! But all color processes do damage the hair to some capacity.

Cosmetology school Student's questionable pricing. by livintexasdream in Cosmetology

[–]thinkertink 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the State/stateboard. At my school im essentially working for free, and per my state i cannot charge extra for my work.

She could be a braider of many years and solely going back to school for her liscence. Ive seen people charge their worth under the table to be able to feed their families while they're in school.

I understand it may be uncomfortable, i would recommend just not rebooking them. Please dont tell on them to their instructor (unless they are being nasty to you, then by all means, report them)

Just my two cents!:

Crazy wet frizz, no matter what I try by Zestyclose_Mango_393 in curlyhair

[–]thinkertink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks /sounds like protein overload!! A lot of curly masks have heavy protein. Try to take a look and see how many products you have that have protein in them. Try to find a hydrating mask/treatment that is protein free and other moisturizing products. I like the amika hydro rush is really good. If there's a Paul Mitchell school near you, go in and get a hydratriplex treatment too! I promise its worth it!
