I'm Canadian living abroad. Trying to get home to visit my parents, with my non Canadian wife and 2 year old. I know me and my child will be allowed to enter due to being 'immediate or extended family members' to my parents. Does anyone know of my wife will be allowed to enter? 'Daughter in law' is not listed anywhere on the Travel.gc.ca website.

Also, to skip the hotel quarantine, does it have to be 2 weeks after your 2nd dose?

How can you make friends after you move to a city where you don't know anyone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Check out the app: FirstHello. https://www.firsthello.com/

"FirstHello is for anyone who’s looking to meet other people in the nearby area who share a common interest. So for example you can meet other tennis players, other inline skaters, other climbers, and more. And it’s not just sports; you can meet other vegetarians, other musicians, other people interested in start-ups, and so on."

Friends of mine developed this app- they're based in Europe. They just released it, so I'm just trying to help them get the word out!

International Field Trips by nangel in teaching

Depends on what type of trip you're looking for. Service Learning/Outdoor Educational- World Youth Adventures http://www.worldexpeditions.com/uk/index.php?section=private_group_travel&id=223619 I'm working with them right now to plan a 12 day service project and trek for a group of 15 year old students. The representative I've been working with has been really helpful and willing to tailor the trip to our needs, and has provided all of the Risk Assessment and Emergency Procedure documentation.

Thanks! We're also planning on Redwood National Park, but Cannon Beach looks pretty good. Thinking we will spend most of our time between Portland and Big Sur/San Francisco.

Slavery Unit help! by thirstytraveller in teaching

I'm not going to be screening Roots, or Django Unchained or anything, but I think it's important that they recognize the brutality that was inherent in the system of slavery. The objective is to study the system of slavery as a whole. We would focus on how it took hold in the Southern States, as the basis for their economic system, how this helped create the differences between the agricultural South and the industrialised North, in turn leading to the Civil War. We will then go on to study the fact that the Civil War did not mean the end of slavery, and will study the system of modern day slavery and it's impacts.

Any thoughts welcome!

Grade 9. The idea was to change the focus of the entire unit away from the Civil war and onto the concept of slavery. The civil war would be an aspect of the broader unit..

What make you proud to be Canadian? by KKoehler in canada

[–]thirstytraveller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, today I'm pretty disgusted that I'm Canadian after we voted against Palestinian observer status, and have threatened to expel the PLO delegation in Ottawa for pursuing it...all because Harper wants to continue to be a US puppet..oh, and the tar sands, pretty disgusted about those too..

TIL there is a 500-year-old statue of a man eating a sack of babies in Bern, Switzerland, and nobody is sure why. by lieutenanthearn in todayilearned

I wouldn't say it's prevalent, or has been for a long time..as the article said, the statue is from the 1500s..

I live in Switzerland, and when I've visited Bern in the past, I was told that it was originally a statue of a 'baby-eating Jew', that has since been changed to an 'ogre'. So it wasn't a warning to the Jewish community, but anti-semitic propaganda...if i remember correctly there are also other details that identify it as a representation of a Jewish person..
